Wood blades for 2010

Recommended Posts

So I see that Bauer has stopped making wood blades and sticks (from what I've been told and from the 2011 catalog). Easton stopped making the Fibre Plus blade that I really liked. What are my options now for wood blades?

Also, it seems to be the year that I'll have to make the switch over to composite blades. What's a good beginner blade to start off with in terms making the switch?

From my understanding there are some companies where you can submit your own custom blade in and they will make you a batch of them. I think Christian and Fury do it. I know Pro Stock Hockey Gear just did a bunch of CCM ones for the Ovi curve. It would probably require you to buy probably 6+ of them but if it's what you like then kinda the only option.

The easton lami blade is still available for standard shafts and the se16 woodie for tapered shafts. The warrior composite blades are good. Thr ak27 is a solid blade, and the totalone is supposed to be decent and very light.

How many companies are putting out turntables now a day either? The bottom line is few people are buying wood blades, less LHS are stocking them, so less manufacturers are making them. It's a natural extinction of a product. Sherwood is the best bet now, if you like woodies, order a dozen of customs from Sherwood for only about $2 more per blade. Those should last most players a year or two.

I looked into this with Combat and was quoted $33/blade with minimum order being 6.

I also looked into Combat and they told me $35 per blade but with a minimum order of 12. This was about 6 weeks ago so they may have lowered the minimum number since then.

If you use tapered blades, the Harrow 300 blade is the closest I have found to a wood feel. Very durable and good price as well. I've yet to find a standard blade I like.

cbhockey.com will make you custom wood blades with a minimum order of 3, I believe. I went the other route and had some custom one piece woodies made, I just picked from their options but they can match spec if you want.

I'm from Quebec, and it's winter time here. These wood blades are getting way too hard to come by at the rate I need them. I'm leaning towards getting a one95 composite blade to try out.

Sher-Wood is probably going to be your best bet. You are right that wood sticks are getting harder to come by, but Sher-Wood still makes wood sticks and IMO there will always be a market for wood sticks simply because they are a lot more affordable.

Composites are great, but Im a lot more OK with breaking $50 wood sticks than I would be with $300 composite sticks.
