Upgrading skates

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

So I've been contemplating "upgrading" skates. I've currently got a pair of Rbk 10k's. Now, since I am unsure if I'll actually find the money to buy new skates which would be either One100's or X:60's, I want to just upgrade/pimp them. I've got a few things in mind for them, putting LS2 holders/runners on, Graf or Reebok felt tongue, and perhaps drilling some holes to put eyelets in the outsole like the TO skates.

What I'd like to know, is if it'd be a better idea to just buy the new skates or upgrade. For the holders and toungue, the upgrades would run me 230+tax. Not sure how much other stuff would cost me. And also, if I should go with the upgrades is there anything else that I could upgrade on my skates? Thanks, I hope to hear from you guys.

As far as fit goes, my feet are rather "generic" I've been in the 10k's, Supremes, Vapors and old CCM's. Dunno if it's weird or not, but I haven't had a fitting problem for any of them than a few odd pressure points and arch pain on 10ks(fixed). But one pumps already shot, and I skate 5-7 times a week so their definitely getting softer. Plus I'm confident I can get the X:60's for around 500/550 and One 100's for 599.

If your feet are still growing, I would keep them until they are too small and you really have to buy new skates. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket, or you are willing to spend the money on a good pair of skates that will last you a while, buy new ones and do what you want to them. Or just order customs.

If they're going bad or are shot, replace them. Those "upgrades" don't address any of the problems you mentioned.

I'd save money towards new skates then

If you are looking at getting x60's, you may want to wait until April to buy them when the new line of vapors come out. You will be able to catch a good sized discount on them then.

That's my plan. I need to bide at least a month or two before I get some skates. My lhs was throwing off One 95's for 500 last year to make way for To's. However I wasn't informed on this until I actually went in later in April/May. So yeah, once the Apx come in I'll go in for the pickup.

I don't really understand what a 'generic feet' really mean since the fit of X60, One100 & 10K is quite different...

But leaving this aside IF X60 fits you well you can have them much cheaper then $500 even know, so I personally don't see how these 'upgrades' make any sense (especially considering that there's nothing wrong with Pitch 3 holders, so to some replacing them with LS2 might actually sound like a downgrade)?

those 10Ks aren't exactly chopped liver

compared to a new X60 , that "soft" 10k is chopped liver

You mean e-pro?

im sure he wanted to say e pro , because my fuel ag 120 has a pitch 3

as for my opinion on wheather or not to buy new : i always like to make everything last as long as possible. But if your boot is getting soft, I think youve made them last as long as possible. And those "upgrades" will be a waste of $$$

Perhaps generic was a poor choice of word. But basically, I can fit rather well into those skates. I`ve used all of them before. And the LS2 is just because I really like the Lightspeed 2 or 2.1 holders. And, I`m getting convinced that a new skate would just be a wiser decision.

Could you explain, I`m not quite sure what you mean by that. If your saying they aren`t as stiff as X:60 skates or One100`s than I agree...

I think he's just pointing out that 10k's aren't exactly low end skates i.e. almost top of the line.

Ah okay, yeah I know but like I mentioned I'm skating a good bit and I am fairly heavy, so I kinda need a step up.

Figured I might just do a finish up thing, since I've finally got it figured out. I don't know how this happened, but I've got the liner peeling/tearing off in the inside boot. So that'd strike me as new skates already. And I think I am confident that the skates are too flexy as I think I see physical results. The edge of the boot where all the eyelets line up, I noticed a fold kinda thing where my foot flexes from. Way too much flex for me in there and the eyelets around have bent. So yeah. New skates it is, mods can close this up or delete or whatever. Guess it was for the best you guys convinced me otherwise, but not too happy having to get new skates when I don't actually have the money.

I think you would love the X:60 skates, personally I thought the XXXX were already amazing skates and the X:60 provided the quickness and comfort I was used to on the Supreme line.

Why not look at some Supreme One100s?
