Barefoot skate liner suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I am a barefoot skater and have been for a few years now. I am going the custom route via Bauer for skates and need some help. Which liner will give me the best "grip" for barefoot skating? I HATED the liner that was in my One95 as they became extremely slippery/slimey as the game went on.. Would the new "Grip max-liner" (a la X:60) help alleviate my slippage issue at all? I know I will never have zero slippage but I would like to have the least amount I can. Thanks for the help.

I use the Super Feet insoles and have no problem with slipping. I have them in X60'S

I imagine that clarino would be nice. I believe there was a member here who got custom TO's and got clarino since he skates bare. And IMO, clarino's probably my favorite, not a big fan of the stuff in the X:60's or TO's.

What makes the clarino so nice?

For me, I really liked that Clarino/Synthetic leather and found it a lot more comfortable than the grip liner on the TO. But I think that the One 95 liner was clarino, so my mistake. I only recently started to pay more attention to skates. My main focus was sticks and gloves.

Edit: Did a bit of scrounging, the One 95 liner was indeed Clarino, sorry 'bout that.

One95's definitely have a clarino liner, so don't order that. The liner that is on the X:60's seems like it might be grippy, but very abrasive on a bare foot. I like Rubo's suggestion of a really thin sock or the grip liner option. I just ordered custom T1's and they were shipped with the grip liner instead of the stock even though stock is what I asked for. I think I might like the grip liner better. There must be a reason so many pros asked for it years after it was gone from retail.

Air knit on the Grafs is good for being dry. Don't know how you would get it into a Bauer.

do you skate barefoot with the airnet liner? im not fond of the airnet liner. it performs well but any slippage feels like sandpaper on my feet. and i have tight fitting skates that rarely have any slipping at all. i wouldn't even try going barefoot with airnet. however my feet have never been drier. the airnet does work well for that.

wow - that makes 2 of us?!

I wondered why they'd do it (I also asked for stock T1 liner), but at the end there's not much difference between retail & grip liner (or the pro version as stores call it) - dries just as fast

the only problem is that less then 4 months in I've worn out a hole in the liner AGAIN!

and this time is has nothing to do with the fit (skates fit perfect)

anyhow - I digress...

gripliner feels very nice, MUCH better then clarino (I hated it too!) or X60 liner (feels like rubber to me anyways) so that would be my #1 choice as well.

Normally I have a super thin liner sock. When I go barefoot I need to wrap some tape on the upper part of my boot (at or above the top eyelet) cause of how the top of the skate rubs my ankle. The rest of the foot is fine as far as contact against the liner and the foot pulls out as dry as can be expected.

Ive been skating barefoot in my Vapor XXV's that have the grip liner since the XXV's came out (I think 4 years ago). Just started to get a hole on one side of the heel pocket in both skates. I think that when the liner gets saturated it just gets slippy and some movement occurs. Of course I also leave top eyelets un laced also, so that could help with the wear. Also since day one, the foot beds were removed after every use and skates were alcohol/ water and febreeze sprayed before being placed in front of fan and no rusty rivets or stink.
