Dog as stickhandling exercise

Recommended Posts

Since I'm in an MA program now, most of my puck time consists of playing keepaway from my dog on the kitchen floor. Funny thing is, my dangles are almost where they were when I was playing 5-6 days a week just by toe-dragging around him and putting the puck between his legs and turning him around. I'm curious to hear if anyone else does this or if they want to try, because its fun.

Studying for his Masters.

I've always found dogs to be fun to stickhandle with because they can never really anticipate where you're going to go, even if you repeat a move thousands of times. That makes them ideal pylons to work on toe drags and other dekes.

I have done this for short periods of time with my dog too. I always make sure that I shoot the ball into the yard every now and then so that he can fetch it and feel like he is winning too. LOL

I used to do this when i played soccer. Just keeping the ball away from the dog is a great exercise, i just started stickhandling around him a few weeks ago, its actually pretty fun!

I wish my dogs weren't so stupid. I tap a ball near them and they run away. I don't think they like the sticks...

I've got one dog that will chase a laser pointer around like an idiot until she's about to pass out. But a ball? No.

I used to do with with both my labs in the summer out on the deck and driveway. They loved it. It usually ended with my dogs fighting each other cause of the attention ha.

I never thought of this until recently hanging out at a friends house. Another thing we did that helped was pass around the dog and the dog loved it

How big is your dog? Mine is only ten pounds I'm afraid I would hurt him.

one of mine is 10-15lbs, and I've never had a problem doing this. I'm very mindful of where my blade is, but he loves it!
