Looking for lighter equipment

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have RBK 10k protective equipment and older mission fuel 110 (i believe) pants. I extremely like 10K series (fit, comfort protection are just amazing!) but they are a bit bulky. Playing in amateur league, i dont really need the top notch protective equipment.

I do have some speed and was wondering what are some good Shins, Elbows, Shoulders and pants that i could switch to that are of high quality but smaller and lighter?

Thanks a lot for your help

top of the line gear is pretty much always heavier & bulkier due to the extreme level of protection it's intended to provide

but since it's excessive and a complete overkill for most (if not all) rec leagues the answer is simply to downgrade without compromising safety

so having that said girdle instead of pants (such as One90/One95 – been using it for years – light & protective enough unless you fall on your rear all the time :)) and light shoulders (ie sherwoods 5030 or something) is a safe bet

I’d personally not do the same for shins, elbows & gloves though since there never seems to be ‘too much’ protection in these areas, plus the weight difference isn’t that significant.

Recently got some X30 shins, love em, very low profile and fairly light. For pants I really like my Rbk 5Ks, also nice and tight fitting, but still great mobility.

I really like the Easton S13 Shoulders, really light. I Forget I have them on. As well as the Easton S13 pants. As far as shins I am using Easton S19, did not want to skimp there. I give Easton a big thumbs up !!! Love em.

what about Farrel shoulders?

I have Farrels and they are pretty.llight and extremely comfortable.Don't even know you are wearing protection if you strip off the shoulder caps but I have landed hard on my back while wearing them and felt nothing (except the air leaving lungs). THey really absorb impact well.

Yeah when I bought my 5K pants the S13s were my 2nd favourite, liked everything about them except the inner thigh padding, I like nothing there for crossovers. I went in expecting to like the X40 pants the best, but liked the 5Ks and S13s more, quite a bit cheaper too!

I gotta go this route! Anything is better than nothing and that is how I roll right now.

I have Tackla air 9000 pants and they are great - really light and comfortable, but good protection. They have a canvas type material shell that gets very soft after you skate in them for a bit.
