High End Skates for Rec League Player

Recommended Posts

What I recommend to you is to go to ur shop, try on whatever you want and go with what feels best. If you're looking specifically at supreme skates, the one80 liner will break sown sooner and will be slightly less stiff then one100s. Those compared to the totalones will be about 10% heavier (still lightest 600 skate though) and won't have reflex tongue and a different liner. Same high quality durable quarter panel.

I can`t testify for the one100, but the liner in my one80`s show no wear whatsoever, except for a bit where the plastic shell on my shin guards rub the edges, after a year of 4-5 skates a week. It still has a quality liner.

I find one model down from top of the line to be the best bargain. You're usually getting a top of the line skate minus a few features. It really comes down to, do you want to spend $600-$800 on a pair of skates...that's a lot of money. Are you going to notice the difference between a 3D Anaformable tech mesh(One80) and ALIVE Composite(One100) uppers and is the difference worth the extra $200...

Now if you can find that top of the line skate on closeout...now were talking.

I agree entirely. the biggest difference it seems to me between top ends and 1 model down is weight and stiffness, ie the rbk 10k is slightly heavier and slightly less stiff than the rbk 11k, but also the $200 difference and 11k stamp.

Maybe I'm wrong, but to me it seemed like the 2nd level skates always had similar design/functional features but had less fancy materials (usually resulting in increased weight)

the one80s would be the 3rd in the line since the totalone is the priciest.

In most brands, the number two model is usually the best bang for the buck.

Yes and no since the T1 was kind of designed as a separate low volume model than the rest of the supreme skates, or so I've heard.

i lump the one100 and totalone together, the only real difference is the tongue and runners. once those wear out and you replace them you have a one100 skate.

Different liner inside, thinner on the T1s. So it's a slightly wider fit

I bought my first pair of skates about a year & a half ago. When I was talking to the LHS employee that was fitting me about the top end of what I wanted to spend, he agreed that I would not get all the benefits out of a top of the line skate right away & that I could always upgrade in the future. That said, my budget allowed me to purchase the Bauer Vapor X:40s & I am very, very happy with the purchase. My inline hockey skates were one or two down from the top of the line Mission when I got them & I didn't really want a huge drop in quality/stiffness when switching to ice.

I bought the one80's about a month and a half ago. I was deciding whether to go with the one80's or one100's. I was wearing CCM 1152's and never had a bauer skate before but read that the new supreme line ran wider than the Bauers of old so I went that route. I chose the one80's because the fit was very similar between the two skates when trying them on in the store. They even let me bake them and try them on before I pulled the trigger. I just couldn't justify spending $600 on skates when all I was playing was men's league once or twice a week. Instead I got the one80's and a new stick for the same money.

The skates feel great and I love the way I skate in them. However, I am noticing that the coating that they spray on the tech mesh quarter package is flaking off in places that my foot hits the ice if I go down. Its strictly cosmetic but for $400 I'm not happy about it. Starting to wonder if maybe I should have waiting another few weeks to save up for the one100's with the ALIVE composite...But that's my only gripe at this point. The one80s are a great skate for the money and anything is a huge step up from the clunkers that we all used to skate in.

Is anyone wearing on80's noticing this same issue?? The black paint on the sides of the upper is flaking away?

I need to put myself at ease about this or see if Bauer will replace them.. Thanks

I'm really happy I spent the money on One100s. If they fit your foot, it's a reassuring feeling knowing you have the end all and you won't second guess your purchase.

I've second guessed myself a few times about whether I should've stepped up to the T1's for the reflex tongue. But there also are things I prefer about the one100, so i'm happy with my pair as well.

They're not a perfect fit, but it's the best thing for me. So not many choices for me either.

I tried on both One100 and Total Ones. I was all set to buy Total Ones, but the One100s felt better in the store. The reflex tongue turned me off from the total ones. It felt different and not in a good way.

In the future I'm going custom. Seems like the only way to go on skates to me.

Yes, that was a major issue on the one75 as well. Earlier when I mentioned the liner will start to flake, that is what I meant to say, quarter panel not liner... Although I have had some issues with the liner as well.

If you care about cosmetics you shouldn't have gone with the one80. And to be perfectly honest if you were looking for a skate to last 10 years, you should have went with the one100s. Liner and quarter will last a lot longer. Still a really good skate though.

I only briefly tried both the one100s and totalones before ordering a pair of the one100's. In retrospect, if I knew back then the T1's would fit ever so wider, I probably would've gotten those instead.

Yea I see that now..not that it will affect anything, but just makes me annoyed that they would go with a cheap option for the quarter. Not sure what I can do about it now.. but I do kind of wish I had the one100's. The skate performs great though..I'm really happy with the fit and feel, and they don't need to last me 10 years - I'm sure in the next five years the new skate technology will peak my interest into upgrading again...

Heres how I try and explain it too customers. You're an adult you are now able too spoil yourself. A stiffer skate will also last longer, and there are reasons why some thigns cost more than others.

I think a lot depends on your level of play and on the money you are willing to spend. If you are a good player, you will more than likely feel the difference more than lets say an average player or worst. If shelling the money out to buy 100's is not a problem for y ou and that it won't make you broke, by all means treat yourself but only you know at what level of playing you are, how likely of getting better you are and in the end if it's really worth paying that extra couple hundred dollars for the top of the line skates. If you are coming from old beat up skates, you will see a big difference between the skates you have now and the one80 for exemple. My friend came from old beat Bauer I don't know what, early Vapor line I believe and he bought One80's and hasn't looked back and he's a very strong skater and was already a strong skater with his old beat up skates. Now he's just a monster skater.

I've honestly personally found that if you go on level down from top of the line skates you get the best buy for your money. You get a skate that has most of the features of your top end model but slightly less stiff and light than the cream of the crop skate. You also save a fair chunk of money as well. It's a tactic I've used to buy skates that has worked very well for me. As for the one/80 I think it's a great bang for the buck skate even though it is third in line in the Supreme line. Don't worry too much about cosmetics as long as the skates perform well. I've had Easton skates that are beat to hell and look like crap but the stiffness is still there so their still great on the ice. Honestly who cares what the skate looks like, as long as they still perform and protect your feet, that's all that matters.
