Weight of new Bauer Vapor Skates - ?

Recommended Posts

Checking out new Vapors for my son - he's grown out of his X40's so I'm looking at the new X 7.0's for him. Ice Warehouse shows the weights of a size 9 for the new Vapor line as follows:

APX X 7.0 X 6.0 X 5.0

788g 881g 845g 853g

It makes no sense that the X 7.0 would be the heaviest skate in the line - does anyone know if this is the case or if these numbers are wrong?

Also - any feedback on this skate? Have seen nothing, maybe because it's basically the old X60.

Thanks

No idea why it's heavier than the 6.0 and 5.0. Maybe to push people for the APX, but that could backfire and give more sales to the 6.0. I know the X50 was lighter than the x60 though. Good question.

i don't know why everyone is so hung up about skates weight. they all are fairly light! can someone actually notice 20 grams or is it just in their head

I think I notice it when i hold them but on the ice it's not going to matter if a skate is 800g or 600g. I bet if you timed laps with both they'd be the same

Probably no difference for one lap, but you are definitely going to notice 200 grams over the duration of a game.. I know I would at least.

i do. i just switched from graf 705 to bauer one80. amazing difference in my fatigue later in games. my legs would get heavy, i would get lazy etc. not anymore. major improvement in my skating.

20 grams, not sure. But I noticed a difference between the APX's and my X60's. I'd assume the X60's and the X7.0's are pretty much the same weight.

I always heard the X40's were lighter than the X60's.

We've had people claim they feel a big difference between stick tape of different thicknesses, skate laces, and even the wind resistance caused by a loose fitting jersey. For these people 20 grams must be huge.

It's also 20 grams per skate, so 40 grams total.. I don't think I would be able to feel 40 grams, but when it start reaching 100 grams I definitely feel the extra weight.

It is in their head. 453 grams is equal to one pound so you are talking less than 1/20 of one pound. Even at 100 grams you are still only talking about 1/4 of a pound per skate. Very minimal difference.

Feedback on the X7.0 - If you liked the x60 then you will like the x7.0.

It has the same tongue, liners and outer. The fit is the same as well. Basically just new aesthetics.

Similar if not the same weight. The X60's were also heavier than the previous model (Vapor XXXX).

Great skates.

As for the weight difference between the X7.0 and the APX - The APX is noticably lighter so technically will reduce fatigue and/or potentially make you a little faster. The closest to proof is the success of the Totalone which is still a tiny fraction lighter than the APX.

Heavier because of the x-rib
