What is the purpose of a square toe?

Recommended Posts

Jagr has done a pretty incredible job with a square toed hook

True, that's another one.

Mimizk, I have to say, I've seen your drawings in several threads now and they're really awesome. Where does that come from? Do you use that skill professionally?

Also, more to the point with the drawing comment--for me, the drawing of the round toe shows what works. I don't turn the blade over completely, so to do a toe drag, having that contact point always close to the center helps a lot.

Now I'm considering which is better to choose for my next custom stick order, round or square.

I've been using round shape toe for benefit of toe drag, toeing move.

The shape makes better feeling and effect because toe will be closer from shaft and contact at a point with ice surface.

But I think square's shot feeling is better than round toe.

Especially we shoot flex shot as snap or slap because under corner catches the ice as clow.

I'm FW so using round toe.

But we can find someone who is using square toe but skillful at puck control and handling for example Patrick Kane.

How do you think about advantages of square toe shape for forward players?

The blades that I prefer tend to have a fairly square toe, but the edges are rounded slightly. I feel that it provides me with the best features of each without many drawbacks.

No way!

I'm not a professional painter.

But my English is not better so this ability is useful when I contact with foreign shop or to make some posts on this forum.

I think almost people use right side toeing.

Definitely, it may be no problem if we use this skill with either, square or round.

But I use the other, left side toeing often too.

When I do it, I rotate stick in my hand so it will be like under picture.

I did many practice that to be able to rotate stick very quickly when shot or handling.

Who taught me said "8th turn" for this skill.

We can't move the puck as angle when we touch it.

Agree here. Eg the lidstrom blade I wouldn't use, but something like the heatley of the CCM Tavares I really like.

What you two saying "rounded square" mean rocker of toe?

I mostly imagine Morrow's pattern if I was said "rounded square".

I mis-wrote "former page".

That was on this page.

I tried to putty extra volume like under picture.

And I shot with it for testing though it was not bad feeling.

Yes, more like Morrow in the photo you posted, but a little more rounded.

Look at this:

ccm-hockey-stick-pattern-blade-curve-cha

I like the Tavares.

Or in this one:

Easton-Blade-Chart-2013-JR-updated.jpg

I like the Heatley.

In this case:

blad_lidstrom.JPG

I do NOT like the Lidstrom. It's TOO square.

So I felt almost people on this thread who using square toe shapes are thinking it's ok if it is rounded square.

But how do you feel if it have rounded square corner but no rocker or slightly rocker, or it have edged square corner as Lidstrom but big curved rocker?

The reason why I'm considering about square toe is maybe it makes better feeling and effect when I shoot flex shot because the toe corner scratches the ice and reaches far and deeper point than rounded toe.

So perhaps it will disappear its meaning if I made my sample curve large rocker and big rounded square toe.

I'd try to think and make it change more times.

But I'm going to order the new sticks within today or tomorrow.

And if there, I want to hear a opinion from someone who using edged square pattern like Lidstrom.

I was using wooden Lidstrom when I was junior high school student but I can't remember its merit and demerit by my own sense.

I use a Lidstrom and I dig it. I grew up with square heels, so it feels like home for me.

Your blade shape looks interesting. Let us know how it works...

I love huge rockered heel.
I cut my sticks around my chin to mouse though, you can see some of the NHL players who cut their sticks upper than chin.
They often like rockered heel too because stick would be lie, for example Martin St.Louis or Phil Kessel.

In this time, I abolished toe-rocker for shooting.

When we shoot the puck at toe area using flex and torsion of stick, this flat toe will floor on the ice directly.

I heard opinions about square toe on this thread but finally I didn't choose square.

I feel round toe is better for toeing.

This is just my feeling though!
