NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 This is rather odd for me, but I`ll try to explain as best I can. Basically, I seem to have "Lost" my slapshot. As in, shots will not go off the ice. Typically, I have a very capable slapshot that I can aim and whatnot. However the last few ice times I`ve had, all shots stay on the ice. I don`t think there`s any change in my shooting technique, only difference would be using a new stick. I`ve been using a new Base recently. It works fine, however it`s a bit taller and the shaft feels really different as compared to my first Base. I`d just like to solve this problem, I`m open to any suggestions. Thank you in advance! RussianDangler15 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 I sometimes notice when using a longer stick that I have more difficulty lifting the puck. That may be the problem
ScruffyTheJanitor 1 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 I had a similar problem when I started up again after not playing for a few months, but that's not the case in your situation, right?
NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 RussianDangler, I just cut one of the 2 new sticks down to the same height as my first Base(Which had no problems). And STJ, I havent been on the ice in 2 weeks, but I`ve had the problem with the sticks when I was playing once a week.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 First step would be to cut the new stick to the length of the old one, as that seems to be the issue. If that doesn't work, try a different stick that has worked for you in the past and see if it is you or the stick.
BarDownGinos 3 Report post Posted July 19, 2011 A lot of it is mental. I "lost" mine a few years ago for most of the season. Flubbed a few early on and it was contagious, lasted all year. As soon as you start thinking about it, it's going to be screwed up. Grab some sticks you don't care about, go to stick time and blast away. It'll come back. NextBobbyOrr 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2011 Thanks Chadd, I guess that`ll be final test. As much as I hate to blame a stick rather then myself, might have to go for it. And BDG, I don`t think it could be mental, I had a great spring season...

flaming_june 2 Report post Posted July 21, 2011 As long as you use the right technique adjusted with the new stick, you should be able to get back your rising slapshot. I had this issue as well, but not with the change of sticks.

flaming_june 2 Report post Posted July 22, 2011 That's why my slapper suck so much now. All I do is snapshots, not even wristers for the last ten years.

Scoobersti 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2011 I've had a similar problem, I stopped taking slap shots for a while and only used wrist and snap shots. I can still get the puck off the ice with my slap shot but its no where near as hard as it used to be. It's like this with all of the sticks so I'm pretty sure my technique is messed up. On the other hand my wrist and snap shots a better than what it used to be.

Does it have a different flex or curve (you mentioned the shaft felt really different)? These will definitely affect your slap shot....

These will definitely affect your slap shot....Same specs, different color. But I dunno if anyone else feels the same way, but the shaft for me felt INCREDIBLY different. I ordered one in October, the next in December. The shaft just feels much more rounded and "fuller" in my hands.
Jarick 5 Report post Posted July 25, 2011 In practice, moving from my intermediate Sakic to a senior (much stiffer) Drury seemed to bring the wrist shots right back. We'll see what happens tonight...
splitbtw 2 Report post Posted August 1, 2011 the slapshot is by far the best shot i have in my arsenal. Times I felt I lost it, I would go to a stick time and just work on unloading bombs on net. When using a new stick, it's about finding the grove again. I am anxious and like using new flexes and curves, so the windup, speed of weight transfer, and contact point are the biggest adjustments. From there it's finding accuracy again.
milezone 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 Never been a problem for me. I stopped playing for 5 years came out on the rink after 5 years and my first slap shot was a top shelfer... Must just be lucky :) I then changed to a Synergy ST with a heatley and it made no difference at all.To get use to the stick I always find stick handling practice helps you get a better feel for it. I generally stick handle for about an hour a night 7 days a week.
Sav25 1 Report post Posted August 5, 2011 For me, the wrong blade will ruin any chances of a decent shot.

ST or One100`s...guess I just gotta cut my losses.Im almost coming to the same conclusion with my sticks which are the bauer supreme one30 and my slap shot is just not getting any air for the most part. I know its the low end stick and i used a guys Mako stick the other week and the first slap shot got great air and went between the goalies pads.

I know its the low end stick and i used a guys Mako stick the other week and the first slap shot got great air and went between the goalies pads. supreme is a mid kick mako is a low kick. Also which patterns where you using. Maybe the easton pattern is a better pattern for you. I'm in the opposite boat. Went from supreme to a stealth and my slap shot is very inconsistent as is my wrist but I think its mostly the slightly different pattern going from a P88 to a Iginla. This could have a large impact, a lower flex will typically be easier to elevate the puck with a slapshot. A different curve and you may have to adjust, especially if it is a different lie. GiancarloSFL 15 Report post Posted December 16, 2012 In my opinion I would say that it's the length more than anything. It will affect the way that you transfer energy into the shot as your more upright. I would definitively try to cut the stick to the same length as your other one.
