Sid back on the ice. Looks good.

My guess, he'll announce he's shutting down for the season.

Bobby Mac was guessing you are likely to hear everything that has already been said...this time from Crosby himself.

- back on the ice, progressing...but still not symptom free

- hoping and working for a return this season

- won't play until he's 100%

I doubt he will commit to shutting it down.

Doc's confident he will return to play at some point, and confident he will have no long term effects... however, he is not ready just yet, and they don't have a timetable for when he will be 100% ready.

He's not hanging them up nor is he done for the season. It's pretty much what we've heard so far. Making progress, pretty much symptom free now. Just needs to recondition his brain and his body. No timeline. Will come back when he's 100%. Doctors won't allow him back unless he's 100%. (taken from the press conference live on TSN)

Im afraid that maybe one of these specialists has found some permanent damage. And at the risk of being the next eric lindros , The Kid will announce his retirement tomorrow.

I hope Im wrong

Sid has the fact that Scott Stevens is retired in his favor.

I think that article was nothing more than re-hashed BS from the summer when there was no news.

Why can't people just accept that he is recovering well, getting in good spirits, and that the doctors who are treating him (who of course declined interview requests for this article) are certain he will return to his regular self.

This was BS and fear mongering, and a piss poor job of it at that (IMO of course)

Fear mongering generally refers to someone who hopes to gain by creating fear in others. Politicians do it all the time: "You'd better vote for me or your way of life will go down the toilet."

I saw no fear mongering by the doctors quoted, They were only stating common or average circumstances because no one from the Penguins is talking on the record. I'm no doctor, and my friend Kerry Goulet is no doctor, but he founded http://www.StopConcussions.com with Keith Primeau, and has had dozens of conversations with doctors. Based on all the things I've learned from Kerry, that article was spot on in speculating Crosby's future. It's possible he can fully heal and be okay for the rest of his career; or he might return but never approach the same productivity he's had in his career; or he might suffer another hit in a game or practice and be done for good.

All of those scenarios have happened to players with concussions, because each person is affected by concussions differently.

So your take is that there's nothing to worry about here? It's all good? "Certain", really?

My take isn't that there is nothing to worry about. Concussions are a serious problem. But I'm certainly going to take the word and opinions of the two Doctors who are treating Sid, above what is said in an article that quotes Doctors not familiar with the situation. I'm not questioning the credentials of those Doctors, just that they are commenting on a case they are not familiar with.

as for certain, I apparently mis-quoted. It should have said "supremely positive" instead.

I think the prognosis – I agree with Dr. Carrick – the prognosis, first of all, is excellent that Sid will not have any long-term problems from this injury. In fact, I’m supremely confident in that issue. The return to play issue, I’m also equally positive. I think we’ll get there. But we’re not there yet, and we have work to do before we get there. - Dr. Collins, UPMC

What I took from the article is the fact that I think the Penguins organization screwed up in not taking Crosby out of the game after the Steckel hit. The fact that he continued to play after that hit amazes me. No immediate symptoms is not uncommon for a concussion. I know that yet a professional hockey team that has one of the game's best talents to look after apparently doesn't. I think it illustrates how many sports teams still have their head in the sand around concussions and their severity. Look at the Michael Vick situation last week. Gets a "mild concussion" (like being a little pregnant IMO) and is cleared to play three days later!! Even with all the protocols in place, the culture has to change. You can't legislate common sense.

I'm just glad I won't have to suffer through the constant updates anymore.

Think it's bad for us, can you imagine how many people he has probably wanted to punch over being asked everyday.
