Skate oungue too wide causing pain

Recommended Posts

i have narrow flat feet so when i have my skates (x7.0) all laced up the toungue comes pretty far back in the boot and pinches half of my ankle bone. it hurts a lot instantly and doesnt go away until i take them off. can (should) i trim the side of the toungue with scissors or would i ruin it? if not are there other solutions? i have tried adjusting the toungue from side to side before i lace them up and it doesnt seem to help.

ahh that sucks, I would say trim as well (with the help of a cobbler though) but it might be more difficult with the Form Fit 2... maybe switch to traditional felt like the above poster mentioned?

Have you tried lining the edges with smooth tape (duct etc.)?

no I haven't tried lining it with anything. What Is cobbler? Also it has a strip of fabric running along the edge will that fray if I trim it?

Cobbler is the name for a person who makes/repairs shoes professionally. Rather than cutting the tongues yourself you could take it to a shoe repair shop.

Take it to a shoe repair shop, have them trim and sew the areas that give you pain. Should help. If that doesn't work, replace the tongues with felt tongues.

Ill consider that. Skated for the first time on them today and it felt like a sharp rock the whole time. Retied my skates 3 times adjusting the tongue each time and it never helped. Not to mention they were sharpened with a 3/8 hollow by accident. Felt like rental skates sliding everywhere.

I had the same problem with my X60's, the tongue was just a little too long and was rubbing on my ankle bone. I simply cut out a half circle in the black felt portion of the tongue where you could visibly see the rubbing was taking place. I also purchased circular gel pads and place them inside my sock directly on the inner ankle bone. Haven't had a problem since.

I was just looking to see if anybody had started a thread about this. I just got a new pair of 7.0's as well and skated the other night the first time. Normally I wear the top of the tongue on the outside of the shin guard for the "flop" effect, but since the lace bite bar on the 7.0 is so stiff I decided to keep it on the inside. The first hour of the skate was fine, but then i started feeling that pinch or whatever and became pretty irritating. I'm gonna try again tonight.

I have been wearing 2 pairs of socks. It helps a little but it still hurts. Giving it a little longer to break in then maybe ill consider trimming it
