skate tongues

Recommended Posts

Firing up an old thread here - What is your opinion on Nash Sniper w/ built in lace bite protection?    I have the bauer one .8- love the skate,  The metatarsal guard breaks down and creases on the 3piece 48oz felt tongue.. Its just a dense foam inside the tongue.  Im thinking of sending my skates to Georges to have the tounge replaced with the Nash sniper which seems to be the only quality replacement tongue.   Can anyone offer a review or opinion on the Nash tongue, some say they can still feel the laces and the tongue is rather thin - some are happy.     I do not flop the tongue i tuck it underneath shin pad.

Nash claims to have plastic and EPP foams in the tongue and 95% batting average to cure lacebite.   If you have the Nash tongue, how has your experience been with it??  Thanks in advance.

I've bought the Nash quite a while ago, and for my 0.02$ it took up too much volume in my APX (very thin tongues). However, I was unable to feel the laces at all.

Other options would be the Graf and the CCM tongues (the new european CCM catalog explicitly features the CCM replacement tongues).

I had Dan at George's skate repair make me a set of Maltese gel tongues for my VH skates. I developed a nasty case of lace bite and these tongues along with bunga pads helped my tendons heal up. I continue to use them because they are very comfortable. You have the option of 1/4" or 3/8" thickness. I believe there may be other options as well. 1/4" is what I got. That is the default option.

Any word on US availability? I'm looking for a thinner tongue for my APX2s. That thick tongue with the plastic lace bite protector over top provides no feel for the ice whatsoever and eats all of the volume in my skates.

@Cavs019: we'll see once the new catalog is out, as there always is some stuff only available in Europe.

However, I've added gel pads (you can get those at an orthopedic specialist) beneath the lace-bite protector of an older Bauer tongue, which fixed some of the issues for me. You could try that for your APX while adding only minimal thickness.

Bumping an old thread as I didn’t want to start a new one. Does anyone have these tongues? How are they and do you get lace bite? Are they thicker than the tongues on the Jetspeed FT1’s?
