pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 Hey I was hoping some of you guys can give me some advice. I am a middle B upper C player and I accidently got on this lower C team who is now going down to a D league since C is too competitive for them. Would it be a good idea to join one of the C teams in the league their leaving or stay on the team and be one of the good guys on the team?
wrangler 157 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 Do you want to play in a league that will challenge you, and help you to get better, or do you want to play with your friends and not be challenged much?
pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 Play in a league where it will challenge me.
wrangler 157 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 Play in a league where it will challenge me.That sounds like you don't want to go with the team to a lower level. You should have more challenge staying in your current league with another team, or even finding a stronger league. C or B league should challenge you a lot more than D. JoeyJ0506 192 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 Also, being someone that is way too good to be in a lower league will make you a target. Sad, but true. People really do not want to have their lunch eaten game in-and-out by someone that should never be touching the ice in their level of play. Found that out the hard way, we now stay away from recruiting those types of guys.
pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 The guys are nice to me on the team its just that I have been playing A level hockey all summer and want to play B level hockey thing is its 5 games into the season and the season ends in march. I dont know weather or not to be a free agent for the B level league or stay on the team until another B team needs a player.
Vet88 674 Report post Posted November 1, 2011 This is a common problem for kids I coach that are also playing representative level. They are miles ahead of the other players in the league and do become targets. I try to get them to play a different game, play a distribution, support and setup role (it does change the team dynamics but that's another story as to how you handle it as a coach) and by doing so they are much less of a target. If you want to work on this side of your game then you may find this an option but on the other side of the coin older players often find it boring playing down as it is not challenging enough, the odd game or two is ok but a whole season..... Five months is a long time at a level you don't want. You just have to decide if that five months will be about playing at the level you want, or about playing with your friends. No one else can weigh those priorities for you.
pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2011 This is a league I dont have friends in.
pbhockey4 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2011 However there is this A/B league a half an hour north of the league I am playing in and usually they let me ref for free and let me sub for free. Would that be better to do to add on to playing for my C/D team?
JoeyJ0506 192 Report post Posted November 2, 2011 My vote is play in the league where you are evenly matched with the other teams and their players. I don't see the appeal of dominating a very low-level league.

interpathway 9 Report post Posted November 6, 2011 This has got to be one of the more pointless threads I've read. Follow your instinct, you've gotten the entire cannon of responses.
wrangler 157 Report post Posted November 6, 2011 I've had a similar reaction. All the considerations are here, it remains only to weigh them, and decide what's important to you.
