giroux28flyers 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2012 so the other day i just received my grabovski pro stock se16 dressed as an s19 pure, and im not sure if this is standard on s19 pures, but the blade is black and the black goes up past where the tape covers it and it kinda defeats the purpose of having a stick be "invisible", which is why it is white, so i was wondering if i could spray-paint the black part white without it changing the chemical structure or integrity or anything about how the stick plays, or if it would somehow harm the stick? steelnation248 102 Report post Posted April 20, 2012 A lot of people spray paint their sticks. It doesn't have any effects on the sticks structurally. However, depending on how picky you are, it can chip easily and tape can pull the spray paint off when you remove the tape.
voxyledbetter 9 Report post Posted April 21, 2012 One of the guys I skate with decided to spray paint his whole stick metallic gold. So we lightly sanded the whole thing sprayed a couple coats of paint on, and then sprayed a clear coat on top so it wouldn't rub off onto his gloves. He hasn't had any issues with it except small chips from slashes and abuse. A clear might a some durability, but then again it does add another step to something that really isn't that complicated. giroux28flyers 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2012 thanks guys, and its only on the blade so im gonna go for it--- and on a related note, does it affect helmets to use nail polish to get logos off?
hockeymass 11 Report post Posted April 21, 2012 thanks guys, and its only on the blade so im gonna go for it--- and on a related note, does it affect helmets to use nail polish to get logos off?I think you mean nail polish remover, and yeah, it's a bad idea to use solvents on helmets. It damages the plastic.

Scopes 4 Report post Posted April 21, 2012 I have spray painted a tonne of sticks, one thing to make sure you do is rough up the surface with some high grit sand paper (200), to give the paint a better chance of bonding to the surface, then give the stick a very light sand between coats to knock off any burrs or imperfections. Also, go with multiple light coats instead of a few heavy ones it works much better in the long run. I have never bothered with clear coating over the stick after I have painted, as long as you use a reasonable quality spray paint and let it cure properly between coats you should have no problems with the paint coming off. lassek20 1 Report post Posted April 22, 2012 i use duplicolor automotive paint. it has a flex agent so it is more durable and wont crack and flake, nothing you can do will prevent slash/faceoff chips tho
perh4ps 1 Report post Posted April 22, 2012 Got the same stick, if you ever saw an SE16, its the same blade paint job, thats why its like 4/5 black!Aside from that the stick just looks amazing, I didn't even cut it yet, I'm like afraid to use it lol. hunt3rsean 44 Report post Posted May 4, 2012 So I spraypainted my stick....mainly because I was really bored during a rainy weekend. I decided to try this "white out" fad that sticks are going through at the moment. I did sand down the portions of the stick I was going to paint as well. I used a 250grit to do this.I used Krylon brand indoor/outdoor paint. The can stated it bonded to plastics and what not really well. I went with a matte white color and then also purchased a clear satin spray. I'm not sure if the clear spray was really necessary, but I've only played two games with the sticks so no real abuse yet. Just puck marks so far.I did not have to sand any of the stick after I applied the paint. The Krylon covered very even and didn't leave any burs or bumps. One thing to note, and I didn't because I'm dumb, is that spray paint will nullify grip if you have a grip stick. Not a big deal for me because I've been debating going back to a non-grip stick to see if I liked them better. So far so good. and if I do want to go back to a grip I will just make a sticky roll. IPv6Freely 2097 Report post Posted May 4, 2012 I would think Krylon Fusion would be the best paint for doing this. That stuff is pure gold.
ibeck 38 Report post Posted May 5, 2012 Krylon flat works amazingly well. No gloss, no drips and dries really fast.
