Vapor X4.0 vs. Supreme One60

Recommended Posts

Looking at making the switch from Easton to the Bauer line of skates and I'm currently trying to decide between the Bauer Vapor X4.0 and the Supreme One60. Just looking for some input from people who have worn these skates or something pretty similar.

Same answer as always, in many threads here -- the Vapor and Supreme lines fit differently, get the one that fits your foot.

I have the X4.0s and love them. Very stiff (for the price), but not too stiff. I didn't even have to bake the skates...after a couple hours on the ice they were fully broken in.

With that said...they're very similar in level...I believe the One60 is somewhere in between the X3.0 and 4.0 in terms of stiffness and quality so if you're hell bent on getting some Bauers, your choice will be based on fit.

Don't forget about the Flexlite (soon to be called Nexus) line of skates which will offer a fit somewhat in between the two.

If you believe the marketing, yes. Vapors are "meant" for smaller, agile players and Supremes are meant for the bigger, physical players (aka vapors=forwards and supremes=defensemen). However, I've seen some pretty big guys use the vapors and the reverse is true as well. At the end of the day, you get what fits and the skate for your level.

This is just me and I confess to have hobbit feet, but the vapor 4.0s I tried on earlier this year were way too narrow and just didn't fit well at all. I have wide feet and it was horrible. That said, it was pre-bake and posters here told me that baking wouldn't necessarily widen the skate enough to make it fit well. I started in a cheapie pair of One20s which are similar to the 60s and they fit great; just fell apart. THe One60s I tried on were good but they didn't the E version in my size. I could manage with the standard but it was tight. I needed skates and coudln't wait for the LHS to order them so I got a different brand. However, I did skate in the Supreme line for more than a year using my 20s and a borrowed pair of One 60s when my 20s died on me. Those were the wides and they were a nice fit.

One 60 has a soft tongue , no guard there at all ,as for me it's the main disadvantage compared to X4.0s.

Does X4.0 have a baking option? no mention of that in Bauer catalog.

I baked them when i got them, no way not doing that for me since i skate once a week and I'm still learning something (not a strong skater yet)

The Vapor line is a more narrow and less volume fit. I spent 3 years on a pair of Supreme One55 and then made the switch to the X 4.o last month. I have a very low volume and narrow foot. The Supreme's were OK but the Vapors are much much better for fit. Both skates work just fine. Go with what fits best. After that the skate will work better for and be the better model.

If the supreme line fits better and if you're looking at the one60, you may as well step up to the one70, especially now that the prices are coming down in light of the new models. The One70 has a lot of improvements over the One60 and I think you'd get more out of it, and the new sale price is about what the One60 sold for just a few months ago.
