Base vs. APX

Recommended Posts

i am undecided on whether to get a custom Base stick or an APX shaft/blade combo. i pretty much only break sticks in the blade so i am leaning more towards the APX shaft/ blade, but I would like an honest opinion on both twigs to help me decide.

thanks

I'm no APX user by any means, but I know that OPS and two-pieces are in no way similar. The two-piece probably tend to be more blade heavy than the OPS, and would feel differently, considering that you won't get the Monocomp construction that the OPS has. However, if you do only break sticks in the blade, a two-piece might benefit you there in not having to get a whole new stick, saving you much more money. Honestly, you could go either way, but it depends. Do you like a feeling of a true one piece, or do you break sticks too much?

It all comes down to personal preference. Will you be willing to give up feel for the same stick that will cost less in the long run, or vice versa? If you break sticks more often than not, then I'd lean towards a two-piece, personally.

Wny not save some money and get a Base shaft/blade setup? Not everyone knows they offer them, but they do.

+1...The Base blades are made really well and are very durable

Don't know how long you've had yours or when you got it but I know longer find that to be accurate for myself. The first few batches of sticks I got held up very well in the blade, were still almost brand new by the time the stick was whipped out. However, the last few batches I;ve received the durability of the blades has left alot to be desired. I'm not overly hard on sticks and I plowed through them in no time....

Maybe you did get a bad batch and are getting unlucky, which is unfortunate for you....My first base whipped out on me too, worst feeling!

I have Base 2 piece and a bunch of base blades. I am a fan. Getting sticks exactly the way i like them (and for less). Unless you get custom, no other manufacturer has that many pattern and flex options.

I've had many base sticks with different curves and flexs, tried going back to Apx and x:60, couldnt do it. love the feel of base sticks in general no matter the set up.

What's the shaft shape for Base sticks...square/traditional like Rbk or concave/rounded like say a Bauer Vapor?

Has anyone compared the size of a senior and intermediate shaft in terms of hand feel? I always cut so much off a senior stick and would prefer buying an intermediate, but have found most companies change the overall size of the shaft which throws me off a bit.

Yeah, some companies will use different shaft shapes between them and between sizes. What I mean is that, for example, if you want to have an INT stick feel similar in dimensions to a SR, Reebok would make a good choice. Easton's traditional shape is up there too. On the flip side, I find that if you prefer a SR shape on an INT, Bauer Vapor is too concaved and rounded, so it will feel 'smaller' than an INT Reebok for example.

Yea, I've definitely noticed that...almost just recently went for an Intermediate X60 on clearance but I just couldn't get over how small the shaft felt in my hands.
