2012-2013 Gear Sightings

Random question - I noticed that Jagr is wearing the Gretzky broomball helmet in the Czech leage, what's the reason he didn't wear it in the NHL last season? Is it simply a protection thing or does the NHL no longer allow players to wear that helmet?

Yeah - HC95, notice his and Fedorov don't have helmet stickers, and Lidstrom is wearing his Easton reverse-engineered Bauer 2000s (he had told me that they were doing that for him, he was never in one of their boots until the original SyNergy.

Is it one of Ferdorov's helmets? The tinted visor seems like it might be his as opposed to Stevie's.

Looking at the sticks in the picture, it's 2002-03. Explains the USA gloves.

Fedorov left Detroit after the 2003 season, and Yzerman's eye injury occured in the '04 playoffs, he didn't start wearing the visor until after the lockout, so the theory that it's Sergei's seems to make a lot of sense.

Wait...no...I think I've got it.

2004. Look at small logo on Cheli's helmet; that is World Cup Of Hockey. Explains the gloves, and the Itech helmets (Itech pushed extremely hard to get guys in the helmet for it; they paid guys hard.)

Yzerman didn't play due to the injury, so this must be after that, and the timeframe when he wore tint.

Fedorov is wearing the first-gen composite Grafs.

But why would Fedorov be suited up as a Wing when he had left for Anahiem before the 2003-04 season?

Ilya Kovalchuk's Warrior Luxe gloves - Looks like the same palms he wore on his Vapor XX's, not sure if he had the same on his Franchises'.

Why would the Red Wings wear an Athletic Knit jersey when The Hockey Company had the league contract? Because those aren't Red Wings jerseys.

It probably was some charity event or something. I thought the vinyl numbers and small names established that it wasn't training camp (I'm aware they don't wear vertically-arched in preseason)

In the NHL, the only player I know of who uses Oggie grips is Shane Doan. There is a picture somewhere on MSH that shows him in the penalty box where his grip is very apparent.

haha, I was the one that originally took and text-ed that pic to Joe. Here it is.

Would be awesome if that was a custom option. Loved those palms.

Not a new sighting at all, but I was still very surprised to see it. Clearly a training camp shot, and Yzerman is wearing either a Mission Intake or an Itech HC95/100 or similar. Most likely Itech. I've never once seen him in anything other than his CCM until now.

It was from one of two charity hockey games held at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor to raise money for the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan Medical Center, which took place during the 04-05 lockout. Current and former Wings and several local NHL'ers played against the National Team Development Program during one game, and they played against the University of Michigan's players (Angela Ruggiero played for the Wings in one of the games, too) in the second game.

Fedorov got a mixed reception for the Red Wings-and-NHL'ers vs. NTDP game because he had indeed left the team, and he also brought both his squeeze at the time, Tara Reid, to drop the puck alongside one Kid Rock.

I attended both games and got tons of autographs (Yzerman needed a police escort to get out of the rink, too), and Steve Duchesne of all people gave me one of his Mission M-1 hockey sticks.

Late on this, but I'm surprised Neal was in the Winnwells..this was just a day or two after Operation Hat Trick, where he had Eastons and the new Mako.

Thanks for the clarification, George.

What is the jersey shore guy doing behind the bench?

Probably just a case of stuff he had laying around from wooing manufacturers.

That's a similar cut(kinda) to the Vapor XX palm overlay but the material isn't even close.

I can't even remember what the the retail Vapor XX palms were like, I was referring to these from memory (not as similar as I remembered..)

If that's the same as the retail glove I assume he's just stuck with it since then. FWIW most comfortable gloves I own :)

My Fedorov MIAs have a similar overlay..

It must be a Russian thing.. nice gloves!
