headonaswivel 1 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Hmm...it doesn't hurt however...it's really more of a nuisance than anything else. However, there are certain things I cannot do...I really cannot lift weights and I can't pull sticks out of shafts or adjust Bauer 5000 helmets right out of the box! It actually hurts then.Shit, 6 mos? Doesn't hurt but is annoying, and pops out doing mundane things like reaching down at angles and pulling, or sleeping with it over your head, wale up and its out???? Thats a torn labrum. For me it got so bad that I didn't play hockey or train in the gym for a year. Lost a 20 lbs off a 5'9" 175 lb frame. It would pop out reaching down to put things into the garbage, or moving it out from the body when laying down If its your top hand you are alright, but anytime your arm is extended and take contact, it will pop out. Or just everyday things.6 months post-op before i could use it to 90%. I was playing hockey at 3 months. Back in the gym training seriously at 6 months. 100% by never. Flo Hockey 7 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 I've had a partially torn miniscus, that was the worst I've had. I feel like I've been lucky so far.Our team had a bunch of injuries this year though. One kid caught a skate in the neck as a kid did a sort of cartwheel and took 27 stiches the doctors said a millimeter to the left and it would have cut his Jugular vein and bled to death. Another kid the same weekend got stepped on during play and came back to the bench and asked for a band-aid when you could see his artery cut in his wrist. Shorthanded67 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Unfortunately have to break an old topic out of the archives...This one happened Thursday night...Took a high stick--- 15 stitches in bottom lip, lost 2 bottomfront teeth (wired back in temporarily) and fractured front of the jaw. I'm only partially wired but I'm still on the pudding/yogurt/jello/cheeseburger in a blender diet. I play in "A" leagues and "B" leagues and I'm fine. This shit always happens in "C" leagues a.k.a; land of the ankle benders and where people skate with their sticks like they're bailing hay.Back to Vicodin for now.... thejackal 46 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 I got tendonitis in my right shoulder now because of tennis. Got it from serving too much/too hard and now, on bad days, I can't even feel my arm after I try to serve. Combined with a bad wrist it hurts like hell and is equaly bad for my tennis game. Any one know a good cure for it. I just started taking glucosamine for my joints but i'm not sure it'll make the tendinitis go away.
Keith 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 This shit always happens in "C" leagues a.k.a; land of the ankle benders and where people skate with their sticks like they're bailing hay. I play in a hack division with some truly awful players and I get a couple of sticks off my cage every game. Never happened when I played in higher divisions. Some payers who lack ability think they can compensate by being reckless and doing dangerous crap to slow others down. It's one reason out of many that I am quitting my current team asap. kosydar 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 I know exactly what you mean. The league I'm in now is mixed A B and C, and theres high sticks all the time from the C guys. Everyone who they usually play with has a full cage on, so they don't even think twice about throwing a high stick. But the worst is when they shoot, they always have the highest follow throughs. SH, how long are you out for?
akhockey 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 I've separated my shoulder, broke my collarbone, broke my foot blocking a shot, 2 mild concussions, I have Osgood-Schlatter Disease in both my knees, I tore my Rotator Cuff, and I've got a few bruised ribs, and I have bone chips in my elbow. Oh, and I have a cracked knee cap.I think thats everything.

Same thing happened to me in the horrible farce of a league I played in. Not saying I wasn't dirty, but I never highsticked guys right off of a faceoff. lee92 2 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 well, my worst injury has probly been a strained lower back. i got hit awkwardly into the boards once and gimped up my back, and now it comes back every now n then, and when it does it hurts like a mother.i've been cranked a good amount of times too, but i don't think i've ever had a concussion...i've mastered the art of taking a hit and falling right you could say hahahha
#94 3 Report post Posted July 10, 2004 Disclocated shoulder (2). Broken nose (before full facial protection was mandatory, I was wearing a visor.) Pulled Achilles (sp?) tendon. Pulled groin. Shorthanded67 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2004 SH, how long are you out for? Well I'm either stupid or a hockey player (actually both) so I'm buying a full face cage tonight and a mouthguard and going to attempt to play tomorrow since it's playoffs. Of course I'll be playing as non-physical as possible, but at 5'10, 160lbs I usually try to stay away from the grinding stuff anyway. Basically just crossing my fingers and hope for the best. You can't keep the middle-size white boy down.
lee92 2 Report post Posted July 11, 2004 my dads had the worst luck i'd say for injuries in hockey...i think he's broken just about nearly everything...arm, fingers, toes, foot, leg, collarbone, hip, ribs, shoulder, wrist...had a metal pin thru his knee when he was in grade 9 haha. i'm some glad i don't follow in his footsteps lol
Cavs019 710 Report post Posted July 11, 2004 Broken cheekbone under the cage from a buttend from some dirtbag, luckily my teamates practically ended the kid's life afterwards. Also a broken wrist, but otherwise just minor stuff.
biff44 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Alright, so basically hockey is not so tuough to play after all. Just a few minor bruises.
hip check 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 I've broken an ankle, collarbone, nose, thumb - right up near the wrist, two ribs, lost one tooth, separated shoulder, and lots of stitches. Many of you have stated the same thing: the lower caliber of players you play with, the more careless they are. I've found that to be correct. Any time you add full contact you increase the chances of injury, that's just what collisions cause - somethings gotta give. :(
foppa21 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Away from hockey, when I was a little tyke I pulled a mirror onto myself. I took glass shards in the face and on my right knee. I've got a huge crescent shaped scar on the knee, but the face was much worse. I got one shard across the bridge of my nose, two in my forehead, and then the mother of all. One shard cut me from above my eyebrow down through my eyelid and into my left eye. It cut the globe, lens, and macula, rendering me legally blind in the eye. I can see shapes and colors with it, but my overall depth perception ain't worth shit with just the one good eye.

Damn.I once pulled down a mirror, but it just hit the floor next to me and broke, didn't actually do anything to me. I did however punch a french door once. Door was jammed, I was 12 and thought it'd be a good idea to smash my way through. Didn't get stitches, but I ripped my thumb open on the glass. There was a silver lining though, I couldn't play recorder at my elementary school graduation.
foppa21 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 I was 11 months old at the time, so I don't remember the experience at all, thankfully. I had 3 or 4 eye surgeries between the accident and when I was 3. My mom is a nurse anesthetist, and I remember my last surgery she started the IV on me in the line room. That was pretty cool for a 3 year old.
mik3 1 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 On my 21st birthday back in april my defensive partner threw the puck around to me behind the net, guy was closing on me hard so I played it back lightly to where it was coming from, with plans of spinning off the guy. Well, I got about half-way around and BAM shoulder to the middle of my back, face met the corner of the boards. For about a week my nose looked like a boxer's, concussion, sprained neck, two black eyes, I even got a friction burn on my face. We did end up tying the game on the 5mins the guy got for the hit though. And it didn't stop me from going to King of Prussia hooters that night to celebrate. Nor did it stop me from playing the next day (first half was played with a cage, couldn't take it, second half was back to no cage).
