New Stick Advice

Recommended Posts

A little background: I've been using a 100 flex Warrior Dolomite shaft w/Kovalchuk pattern blade for several years. I like it, but the blades I like are extremely hard to find. Any other recommendations on a similar shaft/blade combo? I'm also open to going to one-piece. I noticed HM has a good deal on the Widows. Good performance/durability?

i know a few people who had/has widows, all said its a great stick but has (along the lines of) terrible durability. i believe there are reviews here on MSH that also sport that theme

If you like your Dolomite, perhaps a Dynasty would be worth a look. Personally, I love my Covert DT1. Best stick I've ever used and I've used a lot of sticks.

HM has Dolo and Dynasty shafts at a good price. If you're a lefty, there are still some Kovalchuk blades at hockeyworld.com. Why change if you're happy with what you have?

I've been told the DT2 is closer to the Dolomite.

I'm right-handed and tapered blades in the patterns I like (Kovalchuk-Warrior and P88/Kane-Bauer) are extremely hard to come by. I've seen mention of Harrow tapered blades bing a possibility. I believe the Tanguay is supposed to be close to the Kane. Anyone have any success with those blades?

FWIW, I am loving the widow I picked up a few weeks ago. I heard of durability issues with the blade, but haven't experienced them yet.

Fantastic stick so far though! Definitely worth the $80 I spent.

My first Widow lasted a year, the second one is well past that and I have rarely used the retail model backup that I bought

Thanks for the information. Hockey Monkey has such a good price I might give a couple a shot and see what happens. I only play once or twice a week-nothing too crazy.

Do they still have a "handling" charge for all orders?

Does it matter? Total with shipping for a Widow is $110. I doubt you can find it cheaper elsewhere without the "handling charge". I looked.

Yes, it matters whether they still have a "handling" charge for all orders. And I asked because I'd like to know.

I'm not interested in the Widow.

I've never had a handling charge. They just do two base shipping rates, from what I've noticed. If it's under $100, shipping is $9.99. Over that and it's $14.99.

Thanks; I guess they discontinued it.

Well, now that I overcame my inertia and googled it, I see that they did eliminate it, but can't tell when. Good to know.

Looks like it's just the shipping charge, according to the information page. The FAQ mentions an additional oversize charge for sticks and bags, but that may be old info that needs updating.

I'm still on my first Widow and I've had it around a year and half. I was using it 4-5 times a week and had no issues. For the last 2 months it has been primarily my backup stick just because I couldn't resist the Nexus 1000. I would recommend it especially at the price point they are at now.
