Former OHL player sucker-punches linesman and gets lifetime ban

I found it interesting that his head coach defended Cook. I understand being neutral when being asked questions in regards to the incident, but your player assaulting an official is just crossing the line. Whatever the official did, Cook has to keep his emotions in check.

Silly question... was the ref grabbing him as he was dragged? Or was his whistle stuck in his jersey, or what? I cant see clearly enough.

Is fighting allowed OUA/Canadian college hockey or is it an automatic ejection like in the NCAA?

University (4 year college/university in the US) hockey is governed by the CIS and fighting was an automatic ejection when I was there (watching, not playing) early 90s. If you fought you got thrown out of that game and an extra game. If there was a clear instigator in the fight (like retaliating for a big hit) the instigator got an additional game. Canadian College (2 year technical or junior college in the US) had a different set of rules, never went to a game but I know some people that played there and supposedly the rules were more lenient.

The hockey was quite physical, probably more so than the NCAA. The eligibility rules are different. CIS hockey has plenty of ex-CHL (WHL, OHL & Q) as well as many JRB etc. players on their rosters. When I was there you weren't even competitive unless you had a handful of kids that played Major Junior. My understanding is it takes many more thes days. Joel Ward even played semi-pro before going to UPEI. Lots of pushing and shoving but fights were very rare and nothing like the center ice, gloves and helmets off tilts you see in Major Junior.

Yeah, I knew a lot of CIS players are ex major junior guys, which is why I was wondering if fighting was allowed. The game in question was CIS correct? Or was it the jr. college type level

CIS (Canada Interscholastic Sport) is the overall governing body of 4 year university sports in Canada. The Canadian equivalent of the NCAA. Like a lot of other things in Canada it is broken up into divisions regionally.

AUS (Eastern Provinces)

RESQ (Quebec)

OUA (Ontario)

Canada West (Western Provinces)

This game was a CIS playoff game between the OUA and RESQ based on the participants.

History moment, winner between Ontario & Quebec is awarded the Queen's Cup, now in it's 102nd year.

All universities with varsity hockey in quebec actually play in the OUA because there aren't enough teams to make a whole division there. Kind of funny this made it on to here, as this is a team I am very very familiar with.

Yah cause your a tough guy. Really? I have to agree with Cavs019 on this how many pretty awesome players came from NCAA!

You don't even know me.

My statement was based on just about any league I played in, especially minor hockey where dirty stuff is much more likely to happen and guys don't stick up for themselves. Not to mention who wants to see a bunch of guys not be allowed to fight? Sometimes the best method is to let two guys fight it out. I've fought when needed to be in my junior career but am far from an enforcer or wanna be enforcer, I think sometimes it's warrented and nice to see some old school tough hockey where guys stick up for themselves instead of throw cheap shots or chirp because they can.

Last time I checked there is no fighting in the NCAA. Do fights break out sure they do CIS sure they happen but you do not need them to have a good league and good hockey. You my friend are calling all people on here that have played at a higher level of hockey and do not fight a pussy. That I take a large exception to! Have I been in fights yup. But knowing what I know know about it and the devastating affects of concussions. I disagree there should be fighting. I think the rules can be changed and or enforced better to prevent injuries. But to call a large group of people pussies? Well I think you stepped over the line.
