Adding Grip to A Stick

Recommended Posts

I have just gotten a Stealth and I want to add grip to it. I have heard of an Easton cloth that you rub up and down the stick to add grip. Do any of you know where I can find this or have any other suggestions in adding grip to a stick.

Thanks

Just get friction tape and rap it around a piece of an old shaft or something then rub it up and down your stick, it works fine. Theres a few threads on this I think, try searching..

Take an old stick and cut a 12"-18" piece off. Then take a roll of black tape and tape up the end with the sticky side of the tape facing outwards. This is what Pro's call the black ball. There is one in every dressing room. Simply rub the exposed tape up and down your shaft. It leaves behind a sticky black texture. Not so good for your glove palms, but great for extra grip. When the black ball loses it's effectiveness, just wrap more tape around it backwards again.

I've used Pow'r Tac. It's great after it gets worn down a bit. It's too sticky at first, like I'm sure hairspray would be. In fact, thats what Pow'r Tac's feel reminds me of, hairspray.

Also, someone here used Shoe Goo on their stick and just spread it out in a thin layer evenly throughout the shaft. I have been wanting to try that for a while but never got around to it.

Maybe it's just me, but you might want to try whatever method you choose on a older/cheaper shaft first. Make sure you like the result before you go and do it to a $350 stick.

I saw this tape by Renfrew hockey yesterday. It's this tape you cut and put on your stick and it's supposed to make it last longer and add grip to it. I'm not sure what it's called but it's endorsed by Steve Yzerman.

You're referring to Renfrew "Super Shaft Saver". Essentially it reminds me of laminating paper. Someone posted about it a few months back and I just decided to try it a few days ago (on my Stealth actually....). It says that it adds a "soft grip feel". I wouldn't go that far but it does eliminate some of the slickness of a shaft.

Out of all the suggestions given I like JR's polyurethane one the best. I'm going to try that on my XN10. Pine tar is just way too messy for me to use on a hockey stick.

I just finished reapplying some thin coats of Plasti-Dip to my L2 and Inno Novius shafts since the layers I had on there were starting to peel, much like the grip sticks. I quicky went out to compare the finished product to the Easton grip, and found that once again, it was darn close in feel. The joy of it is that if you don't like it, it can be removed extremely easily.

I've tried waxing the stick (too messy), tape (fugly), and nothing works for me as well as three or four really thin coats of clear liquid rubber (aka Plasti-Dip....)

You might want to look into Easton's tack cloth.

Thats what the original poster was talking about. Anyways, Jr do you have any info on this cloth, ive never seen or heard about this until now.

Okay I'll try that when I get home from school, plus I just did a quick one before I went to bed, so maybe I didn't get enough on it
