Lithuanian teen throws hockey stick at ref during U-18 World Championships

Recommended Posts

Huh, that's a weird one. My first thought when I saw him throw it was that he didn't intend for it to hit the ref, he was just throwing it (still not okay to throw your stick though obviously).

Then at the end he clearly apologizes. The body language looks like hes saying "i really didnt mean to hit you" and the ref saying "dont worry about it".

I'm probably wrong though....

Having thrown my share of golf clubs in my younger days, I can say they don't always go in the exact direction you intend. It's entirely possible he was attempting to throw the stick towards the boards but being blade heavy, the centripetal force got away from him.

Referee deserves a lot of praise here too, really. Its almost odd that his first action, after making sure his eyeball was still connected to its socket, was to pull the GBR player that confonted the stick thrower away. If it were me in that situation, i might be partially inclined to milk the injury a little at that point.

when I first saw the vid I thought he did mean it & was supprised that the other kid in the opposite team didn't hit him when he was talking to him.

at the end of the vid it does look like an accident
