guitarfreek92 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 Alright i'm in the market for new skates and i cant decide between apx2 nxg nexus1000 or makos. I've tried them all on and have found a good fit in them all but can't decide which would be a better skate. usually i'm a anti-bauer guy as far as skates (coming for graf's) but have found that these aren't as bad as others i have tried. i think i'm eliminating the 1000's because i want a stiffer boot in general and they are a soft boot construction. but lets get some opinions. dont facter in price at this price range if its a better skate its worth it. i am coming form graf's so im acustom to a tighter fit in general. XveritasX 13 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 I would go with whatever fitted you best. Neither of those skates are better than any other one. They are all the best those companies have to offer.
Zjack38 46 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 From what I've heard the makos are amazing. Read the mako skates thread, well some parts of it atleast.
flip12 728 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 If I were in the market for new skates I'd be considering the VH as well, especially if you're intrigued by the Mako.
Krev 86 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 If you have the dough, Mako or VH. Can't go wrong with either.
GiancarloSFL 15 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 VH can build you a custom boot for the same price as a apx2 retail and you can choose what ever holder you want.
guitarfreek92 7 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 not really looking to go custom more on an impulse kinda person i hate wait time. and im looking more for pros and cons of each like i've tested the mako's before and i've skated in older supreme's and currently my roller skates are a vapor style boot and i really haven't noticed a difference in any. i think if i go bauer i'm going to put lifts in the heels cause i prefer a bigger pitch
GiancarloSFL 15 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 VH custom waiting period is a week or two. The pitch issue could be done through a profiling which if you don't like it or need more of a pitch you can simply have them profiled again.

flip12 728 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 It's hard to put a list of pros and cons together. They're all great products. That's why the fit and preference are such a big deal. It's like talking about the pros and cons of a four-star restaurant. Well, which one sounds best to what you want? They're all going to be good. Do you feel like Italian tonight, or some New Nordic Cuisine, etc.
ID Rollerpop 4 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 The idea that you are getting an equally good fit in all three models seems a bit confusing if anything my guess would be it is an equally bad fit as the three skates have such varried fit characteristics. If anyhting look at what you like about your current skates, if it is heel lock I would look at the supremes if they really fit. If you like the smother flex of the Grafs then look at the Nexus again if it is really a good fit. If you rely on the knee bend from the more forward pitch of the Graf then maybe the APX2 would be more to your liking. All that being said, getting a truely dialed in fit is most important and flex most of the other issues can be addressed by either a good profile, heel lifts or possibly looking a little bit down in the modle line (ie One .8, X 90 etc.)
guitarfreek92 7 Report post Posted July 6, 2013 well heel fit is a huge issue thats why i went with grafs because at the time they were the only skate that could hold me correctly. but with these skates i have gone and got fitted for then all so that i will not have any heel lift. i am a slighly heavier guy so as far as flex in the skate id prefer a stiffer boot cause breaking it in will be no issue. i do take a decent amount of pucks off the feet and refuse to wear skate fenders cause they look dumb!! and i've come to realize ill be putting lifts in no matter what. profiling of the steel isn't an issue cause i switch that out for step cause i hate bauers steel and i like the height of it. but the easton's i'd have to deal with the steel for now. hmm i guess its another trip to the shop to retry all of them on. and really get a better feel for them. Take your time and pay attention to the fit of each. As mentioned above, they all won't fit well, and one will likely fit better than the other. Plan on spending a couple hours and walk around in each pair.
