Hockey Wedding

Hello,

I am getting married in roughly over a year. I wanted to incorporate hockey into my fiancee and I's wedding. She wouldn't go for anything over bearing. I tried using Pinterest and other less manly ways to find wedding decoration ideas and such. I came up pretty short. The best I have for now is that I will most likely buy hockey themed cufflinks for my groomsmen seeing as all but one of them are my hockey buds.

My fiancee wants a rustic themed wedding and I thought maybe I could use a large amount of old wooden sticks and maybe cut them into something like a box or anything? I'm kinda lost.

Any help would be appreciated.

i think unless she is also really into it stick with the cuff links. girls dream of their wedding since birth. guys do not so its better to have them most of the say in this. maybe the groom on the cake is wearing a mini hockey helmet?

I wouldn't go much further than this.. And even that's pushing it unless she really is your number 1 fan or plays herself. Although the stick thing may be able to be incorporated somewhere, personally I'm of the opinion that those kinda DIY things belong in the man cave, maybe the home theatre, defs not at a wedding. I went to an overly hockey-centric wedding and it was really cheesy. Do something subtle like suggested and leave it at that, would be my opinion.

Most little girls grow up dreaming about their wedding day, let her do it the way she wants (within reason). Your job is to make sure she knows about as few of the problems (there are always minor issues) as you can. Have a "Stanley Cup" bachelor party or do something hockey related with the guys the day before. For every youtube video where things look cool, there are a thousand theme weddings that come off looking pretty cheesy, especially in retrospect. Plus, you can use that as a bargaining chip later if you need it when it comes to planning the honeymoon or buying new gear.

I think there's a lot more room in the reception to do things than there is in the actual ceremony.

Things my friend did that weren't overly obtrusive:

- For the reception, each table had a number like usual, but they picked numbers from their favorite players, and named the table by both number and player name.

- The wedding party were announced at the reception and walked in to the teams opening song.

If you have a "groom's cake" or other pastries, you could make those hockey themed some how.

I've seen quite a few Stag teams at the rink over the years, maybe go for that. I'd keep your quirky side to yourself though, cuff-links are fine but comedy hockey socks and ties are asking for a glaring!

I was going to say you could at least have a groom's cake with a hockey theme, and get a picture of you and the other groomsmen with your sticks and gloves on, (all of which I've seen done). Also, I have a friend who used a box like this for the "card box" (like for people to put money/cards in at the reception):

New poster so sorry about the mega bump but wanted to post.

I got married on Aug 24th and we had a hockey themed wedding so here's some thing we had.

Our main wedding cake was a Stanley Cup cake.Pic

Our cake topper was off to the side but we had it custom made with our figures holding flags of our favorite teams. Pic

Our table/escort cards were designed like it was a hockey ticket. Pic

Our table numbers were our favorite hockey players numbers and the table cards were designed like a jersey and the other side we put some facts about the player so the people at the table could learn about them.

When the wedding party was introduced they came out and grabbed a hockey stick and then we came in the room under a roof of the sticks crossed in the air.

We had a chalkboard next to the bar and had the people tally up their "Shots on Goal"

Our guestbook was actually a white sharks jersey we had framed and people autographed it.

Our welcome table was called "Will Call" and our food courses on the menu were Warm ups, 1st Period, 2nd Period, 3rd Period.

I think that was about it but we definitely had a pretty hockey themed wedding but didn't have to go too cheesy imo.

My wife tells me these things don't exist where she's from (midwest). I was kind of surprised, I assumed they were just as normal as the bachelor(ette) party.
