nexus 1000 shins vs. bauer pro series shins

Recommended Posts

I'm editing this post so I don't spam the forum. I'm coming from one90 shins and like the wrapping system. I want a big shin guard though. How does the Nexus compare to the bauer pro series. I was able to find the pro series on ebay.

The total one and nxg shins are too narrow for my liking.

I currently have one90 shins. and they are on there way out. I like the fit and tried the total one shins. The total one shins were too narrow and compact to my liking. i'm lookng at nexus 1000 shins vs. reebok 20k shins. please express thought if you have experience on both

feel free to move post in need be.

Ive got the CCM Cl's but they started making a rattling noise in the knee cap so my LHS is giving me a choice to pick out a new pair. I might still go with the CCM's just because they are protective and are lighter than any other shin pad on the market. They also dry very fast, which is a plus when you live in an apartment. The only disappointing thing about them is that they are not well made. They lack in quality stitching and what not, and they are one the most expensive shins I believe, I think the same can be said about the CL elbows too.

So now I'm considering the NXG's, the Nexus, Makos and the AX1, but not really the 20ks. As for the nexus, the liner does seem very "rough" at first, but it does soften up after a couple of skates, I also like the strapping and the fact that it's adjustable, there's definitely more volume in the nexus compared to the NXG. At the same time it seems as if all the high end materials are used on the NXG's (f1? plastic, the donut for the knee), although I'm not too crazy about the anatomic fit. The makos look really protective and are somewhat lighter than the nexus. The one pad that really has my curiosity is the ax1, I haven't seen it in person but have tried the ax2 and ax3, very comfortable pad, and I would say it has a "classic" fit to it, the liner is also fantastic along with the strapping system.

Another member here suggested that I'd go in and try one of each pad on each leg at the same time to compare them, will do that today and get back at you.

Just came from CCM Vector 10.0 shins to Warrior Dynasty AX1's so far so good performance wise.

I wear them over my skate tongues, so need some time for them to widen out at the bottom to sit properly and fully down on my shins.

I absolutely love my Bauer Pro Series shins. I switched from the old 2nd gen RBK 6k and wouldnt go back. They maintain the straight, wide profile that I like ( I go over the tongue), but they are a lot less bulky and not AS wide as the RBKs if that makes sense. Ventilation, weight, and comfort with the strapping system are all phenomenal. Another thing I really like about them is the fact that the tab above the knee is adjustable and doesn't extend out very far. With most pads, namely the old Jofa 9040 and 9060 that I wore prior, I always cut this tab off, but leaving nothing but exposed plastic in this area isn't ideal (this was fixed on my 6ks, but is prevalent on newer RBK models).

I never had a chance to try on the Nexus 1000 as they were not out yet when I was in the market for shins, but I imagine the feature set/feel is very similar.

The Nexus 1000 appears to me to be the same as the Pro series other than the strapping setup...I prefer the Pro series strapping setup. It's a HUGE step up in protection over the one90s. In fact, I'm going to browse eBay right now to hopefully buy a spare set of Pro Series shins because I don't ever want to wear another shin guard.

The Pros? Where are you guys finding these? I can't find 16" Pro Series or Pro Lightspeed shins to save my life.

Not mentioned in original post but I have to recommend the Warrior AX1. I have had my samples for over 3 months and they are by far the best shin pad I have ever had.

Only 13", 14" and 18"

So I'll need a hacksaw to cut 2" off my shins. :(

when I check sizes on this site, my browser sometimes lies to me and tells me everything is in stock through the little drop down; I think it is doing it to me now with the Axiom T 10s but I am not sure. My apologies.

The pros cut the crap out of theirs, you could too, and tell all the kiddings you like to customize them or come up with some cool reason.

There was a pair of 16" Pro Lightspeeds at the Perani's sale, so they're at one of the Perani's locations in Michigan. My guess would be Livonia.
