Tapered to Standard Adapter?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm in the market for shaft+blade combo and what I only see for sale are tapered blades and standard shafts (at least at my price point), so I wondered if anybody knew where I could find an adapter in which I could fit a tapered blade into a standard shaft, it should have the form of a composite end plug with one "tapered size" end and the other end as a "standard size", it's pretty basic.

1) Have anyone seen this anywhere?

2) If not, do you have another solution? (besides buying tapered shafts)

Thanks a lot!

No, I have never seen one. I have seen people wrap several layers of tape around the hosel but I have found that to be somewhat unstable and it did not hold up well at all.

Tried this with some success. Tapered blade, with shaved and sanded ice cream stick, and then a layer of tape over the tenon. Make sure ONE PIECE of tape is used to cover part of the hosel, ice cream stick, tenon, and down the other side back to the hosel. This prevents the whole thing sliding all over the place. Used it for a stick i used when I play in my hometown, and its held up pretty well.

Edit: I assume this was to get a tapered blade into a standard shaft... I re-read the post and saw that you said a tapered blade into a tapered shaft and got a little confused.

Is there a specific model of blade or shaft that you're looking for? Someone on here may be able to point you in the right direction.

Honestly, I'd keep looking and just go with standard/standard or tapered/tapered combos. I find it annoying as hell if a blade or end plug is even a little loose.

Sorry, post edited, fixed the misorienting parts, but yes you assumed correctly.

Other than that I'm not going to try the tape technique, I'm scared of sacrificing puck feel and have the hosel/shaft more damaged because of unequal pressure points.

I might as well sand the blade, lay down some carbon fiber and cure the whole thing with epoxy. If I go that route I'll keep you posted

The blades I'm mainly interested in are blades such as the Base blades (bc01 and a couple of others)

I also like the Harrows a lot

Both are impossible to get in standard size :s

Thanks guys!

as far as i know, tapered only.. Unless they offer standard now, since the natural is a mid flex stick where the construction may be a fused standard shaft/blade.

you can always just ad a thin layer or fiberglass to the hosel of the tapered blade.. it's heavier than cf but cheaper and the weight difference probably won't be that big of a deal.

If you're going to shim a blade into a shaft then please don't play on the same ice as me. I don't want to eat that blade when it comes out.

Buy a tapered blade for a tapered shaft. The only way I could see using both is a tapered shaft. Unless I am wrong, a tapered shaft uses a standard end for the butt end plug. (I am not above being called out; just please don't call me an idiot). Back in my day, there was only standard blades and shafts, mainly because of the extrusion of the aluminium shafts. I used aluminium shafts when it first became legal to use the two piece sticks.

Don't worry we're about 5000 miles apart, such incident won't happen ^^

I have some fiberglass laying around too, I'll give it a try first because it is a lot cheaper than cf :)

I just hope it will cure just as well.
