I need new skate help

Recommended Posts

I am coming off a pair of Pro Stock Reebok 11K skates with the stock holders, I really liked them. They were size 8 which I swore I was an 8.5 but they seemed to work. They are gone and I don't want to get a pair of 20Ks because of all the issues I've heard about them.

BAUER:

SUPREME: everytime I try them on in the store they are uncomfortable as hell and super stiff, it's hard to gauge a skate when you know it will feel ten times different once baked and broken in. I'm also curious as to what changes have been made, if I didn't get the NXG and got a One.9 or One.8 what skate is it dressed off? Is the .9 just a one100 redressed? Is the .8 just a redressed one80? Or are they all new skates?

VAPOR: not as stiff but maybe stiff is something I want? Also if I didn't get the APX2 are the cheaper models just redressed 7.0/x60? Etc or are they an all new skate? They look great but I can't justify they coin if they're just the same ole

NEXUS: I don't have fat feet but I've wondered about these skates, I just can't picture the performance difference of the deeper boot, I can't just buy a skate on the hunch. Does anyone have experience with these?

CCM RBZ: now these skates look great and after having good luck with my 11k it makes me wonder what these are all about. I haven't seen much feedback.

I'd rather spend $4-600 than $800+ but if it's worth it who knows. Let me know what you think

Go to your LHS and spend the time trying as many different models as you can. Your feet will not fit well into all the boots you listed, so you will likely shorten your list significantly. Then it's going to be a matter of finding a model in the lone that fits you best at the price point you want to be in. There are a ton of threads on the details of all the skates you listed. Use the search function at the top of the page to read up.

If your looking to save money and still pick up a quality skate,I would go with the old vapor model a lot of places have them on clearence for great prices x6.0 x7.0 orthe original apx seems like what you would be most intrested in.

I have the same issue. If I slip a Supreme on my foot it feels great, very snug everywhere with no negative space. Then I stand up and have immediate severe pain, right below the inner ankle on both feet!

+1 for try on everything and try to forget what they look like except to remember which model felt better, which felt worse. Also, what did you like so much about your 11K's? Having a better idea of what was good for you will help guide your search. What were you skating in before that? Maybe you're more of a Reebok 8 once the skate breaks in.

I don't think there's any performance different in the boot being deeper per se. Deeper boots are for deeper feet, and vice versa. If you get the boot that best fits your foot, you'll experience a positive performance difference.

I tried on the RBZ and meh, didn't get too excited. I also tried on the Vapor 90 and 100... I liked the 90 better but didn't try on any supremes. They didn't have a one.9 only NXG and lower models

I was in One.9 LEs for a month or so. I wore them around the house, trying to break them in, even skated 2 hour ice hockey sessions in them about 5-8 times. On that one time though (and each time since), just started having problems with the balls of my feet. Can still wear them sitting down for hours in a row (in attempts to break them in and get them to mold to my feet), but walking and skating in them brings the pain. No skate bake oven out here, and skeptical it would even matter, as they are just too hard on the interior for my "untough" (soft) feet. Conversely, my Mission Axiom T10s give me zero discomfort, and thus conversion of T9s into ice hockey skates is imminent.

UPDATE:

I tried on almost everything. I bought a pair of Vapor 90's (the new version of the 7.0 which was the new version of the x60) and holy crap is all I can say. I wore them for the first time in a Men's league game, it was strange considering I hadn't skated for 3 months and when I did I had a pair of 11k's. Two more open skates, not a spec of discomfort at all. They are super sharp and responsive, light... just awesome... almost $700.00 all said and done but, awesome.

Nice! Glad to hear you found something. Skating pain-free is always worth the price :D
