Drilled Outsole picture?

Recommended Posts

i'm probably going to drill my 8090's today, but before i do, can someone post a picture of a drilled 8090's/v12s or any skate that is similar? I really don't want to mess my skates up, because i'm not planning on dropping $500 because of a stupid mistake

After you remove the old holder, place the new one in the correct position by hand and mark the position very carefully with a sharp marker. Then holding them in position at the marks, drill one hole where there is no hole visible from the old mounting and use a fastener to secure. After that, and making sure it is still lined up, drill another hole in the opposite soleplate...preferable not into an existing hole either....secure this too. With two fasteners in place it will be much easier to do the rest accurately.

Using an RMS system makes it a lot easier if for any reason you want to remove the holder again.

I'll do it tomorrow. I don't have ny skates with holes at home.

Here's a pic of my old 7000's, don't know how much good it will do you because I don't know what the outsole of your skates look like. Sorry it is kind of tough to tell by this picture but I don't have the skates anymore to take a better shot. All you want to do is drill a cross pattern, I'm sure JR can tell you what size bit to use, I don't remember off the top of my head.

i would be a lot better off if i had a pair of 7000s or something like that, but the 8090.v12 outsole gets really skinny between the blade holders, so i'm afraid of over drilling and cracking hte outsole

It's so simple that afterwards, you'll feel dumb :)

Just drill one hole right in the middle of the skate arch. Then do about 4 more, forming a cross, about 1/4" apart. Make sure your drill bit is short - if it is too long, you might go too far and drill into the holder.

I just got some 8090s off a guy I work with, mounted ICMs and drilled 6 or 7 drain holes on each. For the drain holes, I used a bit slightly thicker than the one I use for drilling rivet holes. I just went slow and light, and it went just fine. The sole is a double-layer, so you'll feel a little pop, then another... that means you got through both layers and are through the complete sole. Just go slow and don't push too hard and you'll be fine!

Do they really do much for drainage, or is to do help the skates air out quicker, as you can get air flow through the skate (as long as you take the foot-beds out)? Ideally you'd want them near the front of the boot for airing out, but there aren't many holders that allow that - only the Pro-lite 3 that I can think of, and even that's going.

Does the outsole have to be like composite or can you do it on a plastic outsole because i am gonna do it to my vectors and my bauer 20-70 but the bauers have a plastic outsole

Is it very difficult to drill a skate without removing the holder?

Drill through the inside of the insole (remove the footbed first) as JR previously said.

You want to drill from the inside of the boot not the outside. As JR mentioned that's why you don't want to use a bit that is too long or else you will hit the holder when the drill bit goes through to the outside.

If your skates are in good condition, you can't mess up your skates soleplate if you drill holes, just drill them. Not rocket science. If you ever looked at the holes CCM drills on the Vector Pro's, you'll see there is random angles and placement.

Personally, I believe just removing the footbed after play and blowing some cool air in there is better at removing moisture, than a couple of holes. Nothing "drains" through the holes. And certainly air flow is not increased. Just remove the footbed and pull up the tongue.

I use a Dry Guy to dry my gloves and Skates. It keeps the odors down too.
