Elbow pad feedback/recommendations

Recommended Posts

I recently won a $50 gift card to icewarehouse and am thinking of using it to upgrade my elbow pads. I'm currently using RBK 14k's which have a tendancy to slide down during games, so I'm looking for pads that have good mobility and stay in place. Protection isn't a huge concern as I'm still a beginner whose highest ambition is C level rec league, but I do still fall a bit and crash into boards. I'm looking at the RBZ 150's, as I think the 3 piece construction should offer a good range of motion and stay secure, but I'm open to other recommendations

I'd get to a store and try some on if you can as fit is the most important thing. With that said, I do think the RBZ 150's are worth considering. I'd see if you can try on the RBZ 150's, Synergy 80 and Vapor X100 pads. All 3 are the same price on icewarehouse ($79.99) and are designed to be light and mobile pads. If you can try all 3 of those then you can simply buy the one that feels the most comfortable and secure to you. You'll also be able to try on different sizes - ideally bring your gloves with you so you can see if there's any interference between the slash guard of the elbow pads and the cuff of the gloves or see if there's a big gap (gaps can be closed with aftermarket slash guards if necessary, but if you can minimize the gap without interfering with the cuff of your gloves you'll be more protected).

I'm a huge fan of the One.8 line from Bauer. Good protection, with a great strapping system, and decent mobility. Personally, I find the new CCM and the vapor protective to be rather stiff when wearing them. Not sure if that's working as intended or something that breaks in over time. Good luck

The Warrior dynasty line is the best I've worn since my old Jofas.

+1 for the dynasty line. Best elbow pads in the market in my opinion. They also replaced my 7k pros.

You really have to try them on. I'm still waiting for something to be better than my old white Projekts, but haven't found anything even close to being as comfortable. I'm so glad I stockpiled them!

I agree that the Projekts are the most mobile and comfortable pads I've ever worn. I prefer the grey and blue ones because they lock my arm in better and are more protective, but the white ones were certainly very mobile and comfortable. I was simply suggesting pads to try that they carry at IW. If you can find a pair of Projekts in your size than buying those and either selling or using the gift card on something else isn't a bad option at all.

As for sizing, the white Projekts fit bigger - I had to drop down from a large in most brands to medium in those. The blue and grey ones fit true to size and I'm back up to a large in those.

Yup, I'm a medium in the white Projekts and a Large in every other elbow pad I've ever worn.

There's a couple Pro Stock white projekts on ebay right now. I wonder if they're any different?

Large: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331192693623

The look very similar to the retail white projekts. I'd imagine they fit and feel similar, but may have beefed up padding and better stitching (I had to have the stitching on the middle strap resewn on mine).

That's what I was thinking. I grabbed a pair.
