Looking for mid curve, lie 5 w open face

Recommended Posts

I went from a toe curve to the Hall/Sakic. I did notice more puck control and better passing with the deep toe curve, I didn't like the way it shot. Switching to an open face mid curve was pretty much the best of both worlds.

Imo, stick with the curve that works for you. Experimenting with curves can get expensive. If you are dead set on it, get yourself a two piece.

Yeah I hear you. I've tried mid heel and I know it's not for me. I am liking the toe for puck control and passing, but my wrister got worse.

I have pick up in a few hours and I am going to use my old 75s which is a Hall (mid curve 5.5 Lie). Little experiment to see how my passing/shooting goes compared to the Gionta. My expectations are that i will shoot better but passes will go under my blade more often than with my Diablo.

Maybe I'll pick up a Zetterberg (warrior) blade because I do have a 2-peice stick that I have as a back up. Apparently it's a "slightly open" mid curve, with the same lie as the gionta/yakupov. The p40 for Reebok is the same, but the face doesn't really look open at all.

Easton's traditionally offered the E3 in a 5.5 lie (which caused me the same problems as you), but I read somewhere that they now have it as a lie 5 as well, so they have E3, E4, E28, and E36 at lie 5. Personally, my favorite is the E4 with a kink added at the toe, a lot like Patric Hornqvist's pattern (if only I could get that in a left!, maybe not quite so open either). Also, Base has a lot of blades at 5 and lower, and some of their pro patterns might be intriguing, like the Anderson: 4.5 lie, "mid curve" (but it's hard to tell from their sloppy graphics), and a nice but yet not too aggressive toe rocker.

The Bauer P88 & P92 and the Reebok P38 are all listed as lie 6. I have all three and feel like the P88 and P38 both play lower than the P92. The P92 feels like a 6 and the other two feel like 5.

All three are mid- curves with varying degrees of openness.

This is very interesting to me. Is there any way to confirm this? I haven't checked Easton's site but I know on HM is says 5.5, I compared my E3 and my Gionta curve last night, and there was probably a half inch to 3/4 inch difference between how much taller the mid to toe section of the E3 was. However, my suspicions were exactly on target in regards to how I play with them...My shots were much better with the E3 than my Gionta, but every thing else was better with the Gionta, especially receiving passes, and puck control. Not sure if I could get the best of both world with a W28/E28 which seem to be more mid-toe curves, with more openness to them than the Gionta currently has. If not, I'd probably just get an E3 if it actually was a Lie of 5.

All brands measure lies differently. Bauer says their p92/e3 is a lie 6. Easton says their normal e3 is 5.5. Line them up and they are the same. Line up a bauer p92 lie 5 and easton e3 lie 5, they are the same.

Warrior doesn't even list lie any more I'm guessing cause of this.

It's at least in the 2014 Easton catalog review here, from JR's summarizing opening post. On page 10, you see it's exactly as JR summarizes: for now it's only offered on the Synergy HTX. I haven't found any online retailers that appear to have it in stock currently.

Base offers a clone of both that and Bauer's P92 in a lie 5 (even a lie 4 in their E3 clone), which could be a slightly cheaper option than the HTX, just to try that pattern at the lower lie.

Is the tavares the old recchi pattern? If so I thought it was pretty closed.

True, and I hadn't given it much thought seeing as I went from a Warrior Draper (which is now the Henrique) to the E3 and didn't really notice a difference, sometimes using both in the same night. Worth a look though.

The E3 and W03/Henrique/Draper/Kopital have the same lie.

Easton's E3 is still listed as a 5.5 (looked at some HTX's the other day) But it's also available in a 5.

So is the Easton E28 a direct clone of the W28 from Warrior? The E28 is labeled as a "toe" where the W28 is a mid-toe. I feel like After going back to my mid curve and seeing my shot improve, I'd rather have something with a curve closer to the middle of the blade. Looks like HM has the DT4 on sale for $80 and the W28 is available. I might grab one of those and if I like it, turn that into my roller stick, and then pony up for the DT1 LT in a W28.

And to the one comment above aobut Base sticks... I saw some videos on youtube... Pretty cool stuff, that's my first time hearing about them. Do they sponsor Malkin? they had some videos of him shooting with it.

E28 and W28 are the same. Base had Malkin use their sticks and shot some videos of him, I don't think he actually used it at the beginning of this season, but not 100% sure.

I see. Well then I think I will either grab a Synergy 40 or the DT4. Which would be better? I generally am a wrist/snap shooter.
