Slap shot with a low kick point stick

Recommended Posts

Hello team,

I am looking for a little advice here. I understand the idea of low kick sticks and how it is suppose to benefit the guys that want quicker release on snaps and wrists.

Then you have the mid kicks that are suppose to be better for loading for the big clappers. Trying to understand why a guy like PK Subban would be using an S19 which is a low kick stick when he usually throws bombs at the net. Wouldn't he be better served using a mid kick stick?

I am interested in the Warrior QR1 stick but because it is a low kick stick, I am afraid my slap shots will suffer. I am not saying I have the strength or ability like PK so I need all the help I can get.

Can anyone help? Has anyone used the QR1 and can give me some reviews on how it releases on slap shots?

Thanks

Subban's is an SE16 dressed as an s19.

Still think it all boils down to personal preference and the majority of it is marketing, you have a forward like ovechkin using a midkick. Personally I play forward and perfer the midkick over the low. Once you get used to using the stick properly its all about what is comfortable to you.

its not as cut and dry as its marketed. And a lot of pros use repaints anyways, as mentioned before, so the stick could be completely different than retail version.

It's safe to say that an NHL player can have a big slap shot with a Mylec stick. Those guys get paid to practice way more than most people are even going to be on the ice at all. People who know the specs for every pro's stick can provide examples for snipers with mid kicks, and power shots with low kicks.

There are certain pieces of equipment that are designed to work best in certain situations. But that doesn't mean they won't work well in another situation, or another design can't also do a good job.

Try to get time with each, pick the one you are more comfortable with, and practice a variety of situations with it.

Plenty of pros use low kick sticks. It's all personal preference. Use what you find works best for you. :]

Some if it's hype but I know from personal experience going back and forth between all 3 Bauer lines I definitely grip a Supreme in a different spot than a Vapor and a Nexus if I'm taking a clapper.

But for pros, they could probably launch a rocket with a the wrong handed stick. I'd say the pros are the ones that need the least help when it comes to performance enhancement via equipment.

So, is it safe to safe that players that have big slap shots (in the pros) tend not to use low kick point sticks?

I think that will be the case more often than not. However, stick performance with your particular shooting motion should be the determining factor, not what someone else uses.

Has anyone used the QR1 and can give me some reviews on how it releases on slap shots?

QR1 works fine with slappers. I went up to 100 flex to get away from the torque issues that I had with the widow. I was hoping to try the 85 at summer jam but Warrior was a no-show this year.

Ovis NXG is only a paint job his stick has a custom kick point made specifically for him.

That's not entirely accurate. He uses a G3, which has the exact same kickpoint as other G3s (such as the one Stamkos uses). It's the predecessor to the Nexus 1000.

li dont think its the predecessor, but i know the nexus line of sticks was based on the g3 profile

It was never released, but it did pave the way for the Nexus.
