Graf G9035/8035 Skates

Recommended Posts

Has anyone logged some ice time with these?

I'm interested if their forward flexibility and lateral stiffness design lives up to the marketing hype.

I've tried the 9035 and 8035 skates on and the heel ankle portion is padded and supported in all the right places. If the model fits your foot I think the heel and ankle combined with the liner is the most comfortable and supportive on the market that I've seen.

How's performance??

Haven't tried them on ice, just in store. They felt really awesome, but were too wide for me in the toe cap area. I suspect if these fit your feet, they would be a great skate.

With that said, I felt the Mako (which did fit my foot) was more comfortable.

Have you skated in grafs before? They have a a lot of forward flex and lateral support but it's different from other skates in the sense that you have a lot of ankle freedom but the stiffness is there when you need it turning and cutting. The best analogy I can give is it feels like the old mission s500 or ag120 but it's stiffer and has more ankle and heel padding. I have the 9035 in the 85 flex and so far it's the best skate since my s500. The only complaint I'd have would be that there is a lot of padding so it took awhile for my foot to settle into the boot. The other complaint is a personal preference but the holder feel is different. It feels better now with step steel but the feel for the ice seems brittle compared to an ls2... The towers seem stiffer than a ls2. I love the forward pitch though.

I have skated on 705s in the past. They were not deep enough and I really fit better in the x35 range of graf boots.

I like the idea of more flexibility versus the new standard in ultra stiff boots. I grew up on tacks/grafs and I understand it might take time to adjust back to something softer. I was hoping the new tacks would be a good setup. But after trying them on and seeing that you cannot even bend the eyelet region I think they are way to stiff and will not wrap your foot.

That said I was intrigued with the new mci boot construction and if it actually provides the best of both worlds. (Flex and support)

Unlike a lot of people on this site I think the cobra holders are great. I like that they are super stiff and you have excellent control without any torsional flex or spring. They definitely are not made for the "lazy" skater and you need have strong mechanics and bend to maximize their attributes.

The new(er) g735S fit perfect for me but I question if they willt have enough support (5' 8" 187 lb, strong skater)

They 8035/9035 is deeper than the g75 lite and definitely deeper than the 705. I bust out of the 705s. The last Graf skate I was in was a 709 7r and I fit into a 9035 6.5r. It's not as deep as a 709 and in terms of Graf scale, I'd put it at a medium deep boot. The fit is closer to a x35 but the heel isn't quite as narrow. The closest Bauer fit would be the vapor series but deeper and wider in the fore foot. I'm 195 lbs and the 85 flex is just right. From your description, I think you'd really enjoy the mci series skates and is what your looking for. I notice that I got slightly more forward flex with the 9035 than the 8035 because of the tongue design. Otherwise, the fit is identical.

My complaints are really minor and I do love these skates. It's the only skates that fit me well besides the mako.

Good info. Did the quarters bake nice and wrap your foot?

I'm in some vapor x7.0 in ee because of the need for a slightly wider forefoot. They fit well out of the gate but after they packed out the ankle region has gotten sloppy and lost that locked-in feel.

I'd rather have a very very tight fit in the ankle and a low cut for an aggressive lean, than something comfortable at first but gets sloppy after a year in.

The 9035 tounge was so FAT. by far the thickest tongue I have come across when laced up and in molded it looked like I was busting out of the skate. The 8035 was a more standard traditional felt.

I believe it's down to the 8035 and the 735S, again only hesitant on the 735S if it will not be enough lateral support.

Any thoughts?

The quarters did bake nice and wrap well. Yes the tongues are fat on the 9035 but they are breaking in nicely. Make sure the 8035 is low cut enough for you. I thought the boot height/last eyelet was a little higher than the 7 series and on par with my 709. I chose the 9035 because I wanted a stiffer but slightly higher cut boot.

Anyone have lace bite trouble with the 9035? Just got mine, laced them up right out of the box and was surprised to feel the laces right through the tongue considering it is so thick. I have ultra g7's, g5's and g70's that all have the thick felt Graf tongue and I don't experience lace bite at all.

How does sizing run for these? saw some on closeout and thought about it just because ive never skated in grafs. 7.5 in ccm u10 and have a little bit of heel lift. Wondering if a 7 in graf would work

For what it's worth I wear a size 7D in Bauer Supreme MX3's. I also have a pair of Graf Supra 705's, which are 7.5D. Most people move up a half size when going from Bauer to Graf.

I'd agree with this. I've tried on 6.5 bauers in store that felt perfect. Bought these grafs in a 6.5 wide and they fit good, but slightly snug. I'm hoping baking them will allow my foot to sit back ever so slightly.

I posted another post asking about heel lock. After wearing these around the house, these by far seem to have the best heel lock I've ever experienced and they also market their 3D heel lock technology. I think it works

Ha. Good luck with that. You can buy Graf out receivership and make G7's all day.

I don't blame you though. The 707/G7 is the best skate ever created to allow full range of motion and agility.

You have to start on them young so your feet develop stability muscles. If you grow up in stiff skates, the muscles in your feet never develop.
