senior vs intermediate stick question

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a new stick , I have a wooden one wich should be arround 85-90 flex, and I find a bit hard to flex mostly because Im a begginer, i started playing one year ago. So althoug I weight 185 p , I think a 67 flex or so would be better for me . I cannot find any senior stick with a lower flex than 85, and I still have to cut it a couple of inches, so I was wondering about an intermediate stick, what do you think ? is there any difference in the stick section ? I dont want it to be smaller that the senior one.

I´d really apreciate your comments

most manufacturers have a 75 flex senior. the intermediates range all the way from like 55-70 to start. I recently started using a 70 intermediate in warrior, and find that it offers the additional benefit of me being able to use the stick un-cut since they are a little shorter as well. My suggestion is that if you are to try an intermediate you go with a blade pattern and kick point that's familiar to what your currently using, and find a close-out model, to see how you like it. I wouldn't go ponying up 250 for a new model stick as a test run =)

I just ordered a 55 flex Warrior (as they were out of the 70 flex INT sticks), looking forward to it. I'll try to establish proper technique, then see how far I can go up in flex :)

If you need a lower flex than available in senior, then theres no reason to not use an intermediate.

Truth, I do this. I used to buy 75f senior sticks and cut them down, thus increasing flex. I bought an Intermediate Bauer Vapor APX demo stick last year and it is the perfect height and flex for me.

Just to make the OP feel at ease.. im 5'6" with no skates on, and weigh in at about 150lbs.. and i defo need to cut my sticks. I have found there to be a big difference between a 60 and 65flex stick in the intermediate offerings. I Cut off 3.5-5 inches off intermediate sticks..so my flex on 60-65 flex when cut goes up to a 75-85 flex easily.

I have found that i prefer a whippier 60flex to begin with.

It all depends on whether you need to cut your sticks tbh.

Have you tried out your 55 flex? also do you need to cut your stick?
