tpedersen3118 58 Report post Posted February 16, 2016 I had ankle surgery in early December and have been recovering well and even have the all clear from the Doc to start playing puck again in a month. This was obviously great news since I haven been able to play since late October. Out of boredom I decided to throw on my skates and wear them while watching TV. After about 30 minutes I started to feel pressure around my mid foot, never had this problem prior to the surgery. My skates fit snug but never had pain before. (I've been skating in these 190'is for about a year, CCM med foot beds, baked twice, just passes the pencil test)My question is, has anyone ever had a composite boot stretched (not punched)? Hockey Giant said they can do it but I'm concerned with the structural integrity being compromised or the glue from the outsole to the bottom of the boot giving way. Any suggestions are appreciated! vinprun71 61 Report post Posted February 16, 2016 This pressure you're describing. Does it feel as if the boot isn't wide or does it feel as if it's not deep?
tpedersen3118 58 Report post Posted February 16, 2016 I'd say it doesn't feel as wide. The only reason I say this is because I don't feel any weird pressure on the top of my foot
vinprun71 61 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 Okay. If we're saying the boot is not wide enough, then aside from getting a wider skate, I guess you could punch the area. I'm not too familiar with punching or stretching. Someone else could better assist with that recommendation. As long as there's no pressure on the top of your foot, then it seems like depth should be fine. For S&Gs, have you removed the footbed and tried it out? mojo122 538 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 One foot or both feet? If only one it could possibly some residual swelling from the surgery that hasn't resolved. When I broke my ankle I had a lot of swelling once the cast was removed that took close to 6-months to go away.

I did try removing the foot bed as in need it for the arch support. One foot or both feet? If only one it could possibly some residual swelling from the surgery that hasn't resolved. I think I'm going to wait a couple more weeks then see how they feel. If I'm still getting the pain then I'm going to have them slightly stretched. Just want to give that left foot some more time
Dizzyg12 27 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 I wouldn't touch your skate yet. Chances are you still have mild swelling in your foot from the surgery. You'd be surprised at how long things can stay swollen and re-swell after mild use after surgeries. I don't know what you had done but Maybe your foot will never be the same. I would give it time before doing anything irreversible to the skate though.
mojo122 538 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Or go with rebaking/remolding as your first option.
ktang 34 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Did you get any hardware put in? I did, and it changed the volume.
stick9 896 Report post Posted February 20, 2016 Hardware will definitely have an impact on fit. Not only will it increase volume, it may also create hot spots. Right now your foot is likely still swollen from the surgery. You also need to consider that you've been off that foot for a given period of time. Give it time. I wouldn't do anything just yet. I had fit issues after I broke my ankle.
