Bauer/Easton pro sticks

Recommended Posts

Hi there, just writing on behalf of a friend playing overseas in Europe. He's been using Easton sticks for the past 4 years. He says all the pro stock sticks they have overseas are a special pro model that is heavier and intended to be more durable, because he has this information he is able to get his shafts and blades in the NHL model. The NHL model is lighter than the pro stock and the retail models.

He mentioned that because of the take over there have been a lot of delays and confusion with impeding orders. He may want to switch to Bauer and he was wondering whether Bauer had the same platform for their pro sticks. Is there an NHL mode separate from a pro model? For him one of the biggest factors is weight and between the two Easton pro models there is a significant difference. Any other suggestions or thoughts would be welcome. Thanks

For Bauer in Europe most teams go for the SE version on the team-stick (non-customized bulk order model), which is slightly heavier due to being more durable - "legend" says that is due to Europeans playing with less body but more stick in the minors and it sticks with them....

When you go Bauer custom you can customize plenty options, including the desired construction.

You can get the SE model on any of the 3 Bauer lines, not just the "Supreme" team stick. The SE models are fully customizable from my experience. Substantially more durable, and don't feel heavy & clunky.

So the SE models are the heavier ones and therefore he should stay away from them? He really prefers to get it as light as he can.

Where can I direct him to where he can see all the custom stick options? Or is it best to go through a rep?

thanks for your help guys

From my experience SE models are stiffer than non SE model in the same flex and heavier than non SE models due to thicker sidewalls. If someone is picky about weight they are going to notice a difference between an SE and non SE model in hand back to back. I've cut down SE model sticks to see just how thick the sidewalls are. I cut down an APX2SE model from extended shaft to 1 inch below retail height and once I cut that far the sidewalls were so thick I could not even fit a junior wood extension in it, this isn't the case when cutting down a non SE of course.

60PlusWinger is correct. I have a SE APX and the walls are pretty thick. It's really durable because of this, but if you chop too much off, you're out of luck. There's no plug that will fit in a SE stick. I tried and was disappointed.

Ahh okay. As a pro I don't think durability is an issue for him. I imagine he just wants the feel right. So going non SE would tend to make the stick less durable and lighter?

What does SE actually stand for?

What other custom options would you suggest to make the lightest possible Bauer stick?

He's been using the Easton GX for most of the season. Satisfied with the weight but there are too many customer service issues over there now

SE typically means Special Edition for many things. I can't comment on whether or not that's the case here, but I'm assuming it is.

Even as a pro durability does matter to a point, it ties in to dependability. When I was working with my last team we had some big games that left our big player seriously frustrated when he needed his stick to hold up on a sure bet goal one timer and his stick broke (Easton RS) and it seemed to happen at the worst time. The other thing being its a pain to constantly be prepping sticks especially if you're picky. Sticks can last a while but do they still do what they did when new days down the road? Weeks? Etc... If a sticks feel transforms too much (breaks down, gets whippy, noodle like etc faster that will discourage even a pro from using it given the inconsistency). These are all things that the individual will have to weight in on but in the show there are a ton of things to consider beyond weight for example.

European teams also have a much smaller budget for things like sticks for their guys. Added durability cuts down cost.

For sure, I doubt they can afford something like 2000 sticks per player per season,  like Ilya K.  used to do iirc.

He is on a very high budget team. Cost is not an issue. He has a green light for anything. I understand the purpose of the SE model for other teams and players however it doesn't apply here. What Bauer/specs would you guys suggest for a highly skilled, technical player. His 3 top priorities are

1. Weight, prefers as light as possible

2. Prefers a square concave shaft. Where the blade and shaft don't torque on one timers

3. Blade feel. He's a hands guy, passing, stick handling etc. He mentioned he tried the Stealth CX and thought it had terrible feel. He's been using the Easton HTX and GX NHL shaft/blade combos(80-85 flex) and liked that feel

We've never seen a Bauer stick spec sheet, not too mention the possibilities must be endless. I started to read about the G3 and that seems pretty intriguing

If cost is no issue and he has green light for anything I can't understand why you're seeking advice on a message board. Tell him to talk to their teams Bauer rep to put in a custom order for 12 sticks his rep should be able to break down all the custom options, same with ccm. No point ordering eastons since their customs are currently frozen after being acquired by Bauer.

He's currently on a ccm team, season is almost over, and he will be switching teams so contacting a rep in Europe in regards to sticks for a different team a year ahead is very very dicey. He's just looking to be prepared for when the time comes to make the switch to Bauer.

There seems to be a ton of knowledge on this board. Lots of people with lots of experience so it's intetesting to get various points of view.
