2016 fat people gear

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

Looking for recommendations for ice hockey pants in particular for a woman who's relatively wide.  Height is 5'7" or so.

In searches I've seen Tackla recommended for fatter guys and a size chart I've found seems to indicate that their size 60 might fit the wide part.  But unsure about the length and hips.  I also don't seem to find Tackla being sold by the "normal" online retailers like total, monkey, etc.

I've tried to find custom as well but all I've seen so far is custom in terms of colors, vs. actual fits.

Appreciate any pointers!

Mark

Tackla is a good option if you can find the wide version. I know Bauer also makes pants for women (which I hear fat guys actually like because they're wider without being longer).

For custom, you could go with RYR: http://www.ryrsportsinc.com/ They do full custom for not THAT much money.

Myself personally I wear low end Vapor pants. I have to pull them up and wear suspenders so the padding doesn't all sit where it's supposed to, which is why I wear low end pants because they're much more flexible for when the padding isn't all in the right places. I was wearing Nexus but the legs were wider than I'd like, so I went to Vapor.

Hope that's helpful.

As a big dude, I honestly like a girdle better.  They are meant to fit snug, so mobility isn't impacted as much when you have to squeeze into them.

Howdy,

Thanks folks!  I sent email to RYR, we'll see what they say.  I also called Tackla.  They don't normally sell direct to an individual, but the guy said he'd see what they could do since there's none of their retailers around us.

you might not need to go as big as you'd think. what size regular clothes are we talking about here?

also, don't bother looking at Bauer women's pants. their idea of XL for women is is a 30"-33" waist. seriously?

I liked the girdle MOSTLY, but I'd need to add suspender buttons to one because otherwise the gut would shove the girdle down. I also wasn't able to shorten the 9k girdle enough in the legs, even at their shortest setting. I'm sure I could have speedy stitched it though if I really wanted to. But I'm happy enough with my pants so I just sold it.

Howdy,

So, to update this... Found some nearly new Tackla 2440 size 58 pants on ebay and got them cheap enough that I was willing to take a chance...

They're fine.  Perhaps even roomy.  They're a touch long, but not crazily so, hitting the middle of her knee cap.  I think if I were ordering new / from scratch, I'd go with the 2" shorter option.

That just leaves needing to find a jill to hold up socks, or perhaps we'll break down and use tape or even a garter.

here's the weird thing about Bauer: even though their women's pants are small their jills are not. their loose jill sizing is pretty much on par with men's gym short sizing. if your friend can wear an XL or XXL men's gym short then the XL Bauer women's jill should be ok. they're not easy to find now that Reebok's gone CCM but the Reebok jills are sized similarly.

She could use a garter belt, or a men's Jock with velcro and use a pelvic protector instead.  Also if they are a bit too wide try suspenders...
