Blades similar to Bergeron / Sakic

Recommended Posts

Been trying to find a similar curve the the Bergeron RBK pattern. Recently got a True 5.2 with an IC pattern, but something about it doesnt agree with me.  Was trying to go with less of a curve but I just seem to do a lot better with a Bergeron. Looking for similar curves from any brand, as Im not sure what twig im goin with next.

Also, while im on the topic, I am using some older RBK Sick Kick shafts with a tapered RBK blade. As i said I went to a True, but something felt off, wasnt sure if it was the different feel of the puck from a 1 piece or not.  Is it even worth going shaft / blade combo anymore?  There are barely a handful of shafts available anymore and blades are just as rare. Plus after buying a shaft/blade combo, the price is still up there.  Should I just bite the bullet and go to a one piece (a one piece with a curve i like, haha)?

Thanks

I think the different feel may in part be because the reebok is a low kick stick while the True is a mid kick stick.

As for curves. Here's a chart that gives all the equivalances from brand to brand.

It seems you're going to have a tougher time finding something similar to Bergeron in other brands but have plenty of options with Sakic like curves.

The feel isnt so much in the kickpoint, its more in puck feel on the blade.  Feel myself not receiving passes as well and it almost feels like im playing with a shorter blade when stickhandling, even though its the same length.

Sounds like the lie is the problem more than the curve from this description.

That was my first thought. If you're looking for a Sakic, the True TC2.5 is awesome with a lie 5 instead of a lie 6. Also, it shows that True's TC4 could be close to the Bergeron. As for Sakic curves, you have your pick between all of the major manufacturers with True and I believe Bauer having them in the lie 5. The MC is a lie 5 in True, but the rocker is different than your Bergeron curve which could be causing the issue.

From my experience, the P46 is more toe while the Sakic is more heel. I haven't found a another retail curve that similar to the P46. The easiest transition for me has been the E28. The E28 does have a bigger hook though.

And thanks for the chart.

Its weird, I always felt like a Sakic and Bergeron were the same thing.

I used the Sakic but have fooled around with the Bergeron. The biggest difference I found is the toe of the Sakic is more open, while the Bergeron is less so.

If you get a chance try out the P28, McDavid/Yakupov/ Giroux, and see if you like it.  It's a newer curve, and It's a lot like the Sakic but the curve is more towards the toe. I found it's a lot better for in close roof jobs, and makes shooting off the toe easier. Though, I did send a few into the rafters.

Its weird, because even though I use a deeper curve, i tend to shoot more from the middle / heel area.  I noticed this recently after taking some time away from playing.

I grew up playing with a modano, then went to coffey, then sakic, and  now bergeron.  Ive honestly never really had the luxury of spending some money just to try out new curves. Like i said i am trying the Iginla curve, but something just feels off with it.

I thought that at first, but when comparing the lie from one stick to another, they looked the same.

Around my parts there are a few stores that have shooting areas where they let you try out sticks before you buy. I go get my skates sharpened, and while I wait, I take a few sticks out for a spin. No need to spend a dime. Guess its not an option every one else has.

Probably because it's a closed face. everything else you are using is open or very open.
