Need some advice on Nexus skates

Recommended Posts

So at 5'10' 215 lbs I have wide, semi-flat feet (very low arches) with a high instep.  Over the last few years I have skated in Bauer One70's and Reebok 18k's, both 6EE.  The Reeboks were far and away more comfortable, but due to the lack of volume and general plushness of the skate even for a high level model, they were relegated to reffing duty only.  For hockey purposes, the Supreme's were much better for me performance wise, but much less comfortable width wise and still a lack of depth (failed the pencil test).  Essentially I can't tighten the laces around my foot, I just snug them up a little bit so I don't much feeling of stability in the foot area.  A few years ago I tried a pair of Nexus 600's when they first came out.  The fit was what I needed and I loved the deep heel pocket.  I wasn't as quick on my feet but could certainly notice more power in my stride and straight-line speed.  Problem I had with these skates is after about 20-30 minutes I would start getting a hot spot on the inside of my arches, like the boot was pinching right in the middle of my foot.  Bauer described the fit of these skates as "figure 8" so this made sense, however if someone has a wide foot, why the hell would it narrow in the middle???  Anyway, I'm wondering if the newer versions still have this fit profile of a "figure 8" and can this be heat molded out when baking?  I am looking at the N8000 as that is more my budget and I prefer the tech mesh.  I don't have many options around me for trying on skates in a EE and the Nexus line is getting harder and harder to find.  Any help would be appreciated.

The Nexus line is essentially what I call a "wide all over" fit. It's a little wider in the toe box, middle (arch area) and heel than all the other Bauer skates. Also, a D width in a Nexus is a EE for Supremes and Vapors. I would definitely get fitted again because all of those skates you have are different fits than the Nexus and you may or may not be the same size. The N8000's are bake-able so there should be some added comfort after you do that. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well they'll fit you once you verify your length.

I don't know if you have access to the Bauer 3-D lab at your local shop but I would definitely use it if it is an option. Maybe have the shop send out for the inventory before you try it on? Like a EE supreme or comparable CCM boot that will give you options to find the best fit?

Brother, I have the same problem. I wear 600s, or at least a SMU of them,  in 9.5D and am trying to find a new pair. When I did the 3D lab, they suggested either a different size, half down, 9EE. I don't know if the nexus comes in half size EE, but they are hard to find right now because they are going through a line change in July. But I am hoping to get N8000s, because i like the tech mesh as well, in my size.

You may, like me, need to wait until July when they change the line and see what they come up with , or poke around and see what is left for stock on websites, as what is being sold is kinda what is out there. Bauer definitely has the market on wide skates right now, unless you go with True, which is out of your price range.

I am in the same boat , I fall in between sizes in bauer.  Supreme gives me lace bite , and vapors ee's I have to much negative space in the toe box. Thinking about trying out ccm's and nexus' tomorrow to try to see. Gets a little tough though , as I noticed some pretty big differences from trying on in the store fitment & after baking and a couple skates feel . Bauer has new skate lines in all 3 models coming in july ?

I've been looking for size 12 EE N7000 or N8000 for a couple months and I finally found a pair. I ended up Facebook messaging and emailing virtually every LHS that I could find info for in the US and Canada and eventually I found a pair at a mom & pop shop in Connecticut. If you're persistent, you'll eventually find the size that you're looking for. Somebody somewhere had a pair ordered at their LHS and they didn't like them or they didn't fit right so the LHS got stuck with them.

Every shop that I've talked to gave me the same answer, if Bauer doesn't have the model and size you're looking for on hand, you're going to have to wait until July until the "2018" Nexus hit the shelves.

Won't be all three, Vapors were updated in 2017.
