VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne

Recommended Posts

Tongues are the same length they shipped as.

As far as my foot, I've got a wide, higher-volume foot, but I don't think it's related to the added composite material in that area.

I have a wide foot with a very high instep that sticks far out of every boot I've tried and causes me very much pain when skating. I'm very interested to hear how good these skates feel on you when you skate relative to other skates you've tried. Thanks.

A question for those of you that have ordered custom skates through VH. How long did it take for you to get a response and what was the turn around time? What exactly is the process after you send the order form over? Thanks for the help.

For the response time Scott normally gets back to you within a day or two. After you send the order form Scott normally emails you with any questions he might have. Now the more information you give him the better, how you want the skate to fit any abnormalities your foot might have.

Just ordered a pair yesterday morning. Scott got back to me last night. Very excited for these skates. Finally a skate that wil fit my thick ass feet. I will keep everyone informed on the length of the process and feedback when I get them and use them.

So, short update:

Finally skates in them, and I'm having some toe room issues. Notified Scott and he is taking the skates back to rework the toe box.

What are your toe room issues? Height, width length?

Length. Even though my tracings accurately reflect my flat foot shape (I tend to scrunch my toes when I skate), there is not enough room for my last two toes in the toe cape to lie flat.

Scott stands by his stuff, though, so I'm not concerned about getting these to fit me perfectly.

So the toe box is too rounded for you it would seem?

When I ordered mine, (emailed the tracings) Scott got back to me the same day. He told me he would be sending me an invoice for paypal payment. After I sent payment, skates shipped 8 days later. Shipping took about a week because of customs. So about 2 weeks to get mine. Scott stands by his product and wants you to be happy with the skates. I am completely happy with mine.

I asked for a very anatomical toe cap and love it its perfect. Scott stands behind these skates and works tirelessly until your happy. He's always taken care of me. That work ethic and business ethic is very rare these days.

Had a pair of the goalie skates come in to the shop the other day, and could not believe how light they were. Paired with the reflex cowling from bauer, it blew my mind

I ordered my custom pair on Monday August 19 and received it on Friday August 30 but I'm in Canada so there was no customs delay. The toe area was a bit tight even after heat molding so I e-mailed Scott and he gave me advice on punching it out and referred me to the how-to video on his website, but he told me I could also mark the spot and return it to him to have it done at the factory if the area was too hard for me to do. I managed to work it out on my own, following his instructions.

Coming from Bauer Flexlite 4.0 here are my impressions. It's low cut. In fact the top eyelet is about the same height as the second eyelet on the Flexlite which suits me fine since I didn't lace the top eyelet on the Flexlites. But in doing so I lost some lateral support in order to gain forward flex. There's plenty of lateral support with the VH skate and forward flex is excellent laced to the top eyelet. I've played 2 open hockey sessions with them and have never skated so well! I even feel less tired after a game which I guess is because I'm not wasting so much energy flexing a sloppy skate.

Besides having the carbon-fibre-looking patch on the side, I notice it has 10 eyelets instead of 9 like on mine and all other VH skate pictures I've seen. Are they a particularly large size or did you ask for more eyelets?

Yeah man put some pics up would love to see how yours came out. By the way Scott has discounted skates available now.

When you baked your skates, did you do them one at a time or both at the same time? Or did you go to a local shop?

One at a time 10 min each side at 180º if I remember correctly. Also I put a silicone baking sheet under my skate to prevent any burning.

Should I wait 24 hours after baking before skating on them?
