3D Edge Analysis - sparks vs Blackstone up close

The last two blades I got from tydan came back with quite uneven edges. Just barely staying in the green zone on my sparx edge checker. So ya.. even that machine isn't always perfect.

Same here- 2 pairs, both WAY off.

And they supply NHL and other pro  teams too. So weird. Maybe it's just for the convenience of being able to order bulk and getting them profiled. Trainers might re sharpen them. I also am not a fan of the way the skatescribe sharpens the skates. Leaves a scale like finish in the hollow.  But with that said their "like new" pro stock steel with free profile and sharpen is a good deal regardless of uneven edges lol.

Likely they are operating at scale and have hired staff to help out with retail profiling/sharpening, thus you aren't getting the same quality they provide to the NHL teams.

Which is kinda bunk. I don't really care because I have a sparx and it was free with the blade purchase. But if I paid for brand new steel and paid for profiling and sharpening as well I would be upset.

If they are that careless with the sharpening it makes me question if the profiles are done just as sloppily.

Both sets of steel were identical heights and shape and matched the shape of my current steels profile exactly so there's that lol. But it always did make me wonder how their machine could profile AND sharpen a set of steel together at the same time. Profile yes, but creating a hollow on two stacked blades? Lol

Hmm, isn't that website owned by OP? Shame shame shame.

Doesn't matter if hand-sharpening has nuclear laser beam-level of sharpening ability. It's no contest because if you have a Sparx at home, you are able to use the flattest hollow you can comfortably skate on for one hour before it needs resharpening. And that's before even considering that 100% my profile will be degraded after a single manual sharpening.

if I don't have a Sparx and want the flattest ROH I can comfortably skate on, I'd have to visit the nearest "expert" hand sharpener several times a week...

Indeed, the market has spoken.

Ewww. Can you edit the post to reflect that? One thing I love about Modsquad is the objectivity from a diverse population.

People can have big feelings about who does their sharpening and what process is better, but that feels gross when he says “no subjective feelings” and he’s shilling for his own work.

Or at the very least be up-front about it. Saying "Anyone see this yet… " and "This is good stuff." about your own content is... weird.

Ya I read that… II think the point is how good of an edge can you get in a Blackstone. You can’t use fine shine on a sparks… Blackstone you can.  So ya, totally valid comparison.

Did you now?
