2005 Vectors with Boa technology...

Recommended Posts

The new "Boa Technology" on the 2005 Vectors looks pretty cool. The skates has absolutely no laces at all, rather there is this wheel that you turn right or left to loosen or tighten the skates, I wouldn't wear them though.

they had boas on the 2004 vectors too didn't they?

Yes it was. It's not bad for kids who are too weak to tie their own skates but I can't imagine any able bodied person being lazy enough to use it.

They made it seem that they provide extra ankle support (bad ankles/flat feet), I was looking into them, but can't find them for sale.

tmacs take it even further, instead of strings, they have a piece of material that straps your foot down, sort of like a tight fitting tarpaulin but for your foot. why aren't skates made with inner booties, like in high end basketball shoes?

Oh man, I hated back when I played basketball and they started putting the neoprene booties in the top of the line shoes. You'd have to wash them constantly and about 10mins into a game your feet felt horrible.

The Boa system is almost as bad as wheeled bags .

I'm having a serious Simpsons flashback.. "and all this time I've been using my lungs like a sucker" (when Homer goes to the old folks home)

What model will they be similar to? Like Vector 2.0 without the laces?

maybe they're the vector 3s with the vector 2 look...

of course with the giant dial thing

Actually, these skates are selling very well and they BOA system works great. The skate itself is an entry level skate, similar to the 2.0/3.0. The parents and coaches love these skates. It literally takes 10 seconds to tie and 1 SECOND to untie. Picture the mom in the locker room. These are really designed for her. Actually now, the mom doesn't even need to go into the room, the kid can do it himself. The feedback I've been getting from those who bought them is all positive. Their kids are always first out of the locker room. The skate itself is OK, I wish it had a stainless blade though.

They don't make them yet for adult hockey skates, only yth/jr up to size 4. Primarily because they tighten equally all the way to the top. So if you like to keep the top loose, you can't. However, when I spoke to BOA last, they were designing a system that would allow flexibility in tightness, and will try to sell it to CCM. I'm in the process of retrofiting a BOA system on my skates now. I'm doing a test for BOA. I like to wear my skates just snug all the way so I think it will work well for me.

I wonder about Durability. It doesn't look small to me, and I do take a few shots there every year. It looks like a basic plastic cap, which I don't see holding up well on anything above entry level skates.

A senior skate would have to have a protective pad over the dial. As for the BOA system, it has been tested for years and is on snowboards, skiboots, hiking boots and more.
