Skull Caps

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

Do any of you wear a dri-fit skull cap under your helmet? If so, does it help keep the sweat off your face? Is it comfortable? Did you have to resize your helmet? Do you over heat?

The reason I'm asking is my visor anti-fog works pretty good, as long as a bead of sweat doesn't touch it, so I'm thinking a skull cap or maybe even a bandanna may help.

Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks,

JJ

Yep, I wear one. I have extremely acidic sweat and the stinging in my eyes is unbearable without it. I used to wear a bandana, but have been very pleased since I switched to the beanie. Just look for one with thin elastic on the bottom. If it's too fat, it will change the fit of your helmet.

Hey asdfa,

You do know the skull cap goes under your helmet and not over it right??? :D

really? soo that's why.....

actually, it doesn't stay right under my helmet. it's a football skullcap so it covers my ears and you can see it under my helmet around my forehead and the back of my head too

Its true. I make fun of him all the time :P

I think the only downside to skull caps, is the fact that people will purposely try to smoke you.

yea, kelvin you look like your ready to go swimming with your cap.

try getting one that goes above the ears if you want to avoid that? They also have alot of those head bands you attach to the forehead part of your helmet (lots are on ebay) to stop sweat from dripping into your eyes. Theyre the same thing most goalies wear.

give the under armour one try.. it doesnt go over your ears... a lot of cyclists wear them without you being able to see them and their helmets are shorter than ours

I sell lots of them, Ice Caps and the CCM Skullys. Reports from customers is they work very well, controlling sweat and with fogging. Only bad thing,..one is not enough unless you like to do laundry after each use. Most get 2-3 and rotate them.

I have a Headsweats "Mid Cap" which is like a skull cap but a little longer. I used it last year because I had my head shaved and wearing a helmet was very uncomfortable. I still use it in cold rinks.

Highly suggest the under-armour, for a guy who sweats a ton its a godsend. Do-rag since cotton gets heavy when soaked.

I use the UA, but for different reasons.

The liner in the Carbster isn't good for people who shave their heads.

The elastic however pinches the back of my ears.

Thanks boys. I think I'll give it a go! Now if I can only fine a local retailer here in Vancouver so I can try it on before I buy....well, time to start looking.

I have the CCM skully, because the sweat stung my eyes so bad i could hardly see. It keeps all the sweat out of my eyes and face. It doesn't go over my ears either.

a better ventilated helmet is the way to go

the skull caps are a catch 22, cause you to sweat even more cause it traps in more heat, although it does soak some of it up.

actually, with all of the different drifit/coolmax/whatever, they're really comfortable, and they keep your head at a nice, even temperature. definately just a tiny bit warmer but it's about the same all around, not like helmets where you get hot spots where there's no ventilation and cold spots where there aren't.
