Sidney Crosby will sign with Reebok

Recommended Posts

THC, the hockey company (ccm, jofa, koho) and Rbk have a lock on the "next generation" The Cros, Ovechkin, Malkin, and Bergeron. With the AHL, CHL, and I think the ECHL being all officially supplied with RBK and THC, is the NHL next? That would be kind of sick, forcing players to wear the same helmet, gloves, pants, possibly skates and sticks. I know in the NHL all players must wear jofa elbow pads and my buddy played on Guelph a few years back when they had the nike space helmets, thats pretty awful. Ah well I hope reebok doesnt turn into hockey nazis and the Sid is sick....

Great for him. Sounds like they have a good product in the new jets.

My problem is in regard to the THC contract with minor league teams. As for protective equipment, fine. Its not going to affect your game that much. But sticks, that irks me to no end.

You would never see this happen in golf or baseball, where players are fantatical about the tool they use. So why is it in hockey, (where we are just as finicky if not more) players have to use a stick they would most likely not chose in the first place.

Having numerous friends in the AHL and ECHL I know firsthand my boys are upset and its affecting them. Sure alot of it may be mental but there is a difference in product, and its not cool.

I can't wait to see him playing in the show with a birdcage on though.

You're going to make fun of somebody who enjoys the concept of having his own teeth when he's 40?

I think that is where sites like ModSquadHockey really help out.

Without gear review sites, this kind of marketing move by Reebok / THC would work. People would be more prone to being influenced by what they see the televised players using.

Marketing-wise, it works with tennis racquets in Europe. Consumers buy what they think their favourite pros use, whether it suits their game or not. Most pros heavily customize their racquets, so they are completely different from what is available at retail. Som even use their preferred (different) brand and paint over the racquets with the sponsored brand's insignias to disguise them.

Now that Reebok "have a lock on the 'next generation'", marketing-wise, let's see if players follow. I think that most players are too finicky about what they use and how things fit.

are you sure? i used to work with pro linesman and my brothers old coach was a goal judge, they both told me the same thing. All nhl players have to wear the jofa elbows because they were tested and showed not to cause concussions

With a straight face tell me no one's going to make fun of him if he wore a full-shield, talented or not.

Ahh I know those helmets. When my team went to the Quebec PeeWee tourney 2 years ago Nike sort of sponsored us in a way and we all got those helmets and had to bust em out, they were sick..

whats this talk of crosby wearing a full shiled in the show? i thought that you werent allowed to go full thats why when ever someone gets a facial injury they make some mask up with the itech concepts, but then i saw thornton wear a cheese cutter last year

Yes, I am positive. The Jofa was the only "new" design submitted for NHL approval 2 or 3 years ago, when the NHL changed requirements. There are several other deigns that are permitted. Some older and some are newer.

Back to the Crosby mask thing. Why is it sometime on TSN highlight packages he has a full shield and other times he has a visor. I know he had to wear one in the WJHC, because he is an underage player, but why in his own league does it change?

I doubt he'll wear one in the NHL...he'll definately be a visor guy though.

You may be right...but I could've sworn I'd seen it this year...maybe he had an injury and was wearing it to protect something.

I thought that in the CHL you have to wear one of those goofy Itech half shields, regardless of age. But then in international play under 18 has to wear either a cage or a full shield.

You have to wear some kind of facial protection at all times in the CHL and under 18 in WJC you have to wear a full shield./cage. From a quick google, I saw some pictures of him with a full on Dartmouth, but not on the Oceanic.
