Fast Food - Healthy Choices?

I know fast food is kinda bad, but what do you guys get if you do eat it? I usually get the grilled chicken sandwiches from BK or Wendy's or the chicken BLT salad from Wendy's. Any suggestions?

Subway has to be one of the healthiest. Then again, if you get a footlong wtih mayo, cheese, chips, and a large coke, it isn't that healthy.

Try and stay away from the Mayo on anything. Wendy's grilled chicken comes, or came, with a low fat honey mustard sauce. Generally the dressing on Salads make them as bad as a burger and fries. A salad is a good start, just make sure to get the non-fat dressings (each usually has one) as low fat doesn't mean its good for you. Wendy's Chili is decent. Subs are always a good way to go and Subway offers Swiss cheese, which is generally better than their other choices. The "Extra"s are what tend to kill you on everything, the mayo, and other sauces. When you go there try and get it dry or without any fatty sauces. If your Canadian I like to goto Hortons and grab a soup and sandwhich combo, and Pita places are decent as well.

Theo- those are not healthy choices.

I like Wendy's, the taco salad is about as healthy as I get. Usually I end up with the spicy chicken sandwich though.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I'm actually contemplating on what to get before my game tonight. I totally forgot to throw in the sub places into the equation. If I had to pick i would go with Blimpie's over Subway. They just put more meat into their subs over Subway. I usually get Turkey and swiss on wheat with only lettuce and tomato on it. If I do throw mayo on it it's only a scraping.

Go with the wrap instead of the bun, much less bread

I like the Honey Ham and Swiss from Quizno's. If you're trying to eat healthy at a fast food joint, you're looking in the wrong place. You might as well go and get the greasiest burger on the menu.

Yeah I know. It's just I have nothing in my house so i gotta get something. I'm diabetic so eliminating carbs is really something I can do before a game. I need the fuel.

Chick-Fil-A and Subway, but not eating red meat (or any meat at all thanks to Lent) has curbed me on most/all fast food.

I always get Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki on Italian bread, with lettuce, american cheese, and sweet onion sauce when I go to Subway. That is all that I eat when I eat fast food.

Grilled chicken breat on cheese, with italian, mustard, mayo, lettuce, onions, pickles, green peppers, banana peppers and olives yummm :D

Roasted chicken breast on honey oat or monterrey cheddar, no cheese, lettuce, cucumber, parmesan, salt & pepper.

Chipotle naked borrito is health. It is their burrito minus the tortilla. You could get no rice and beans and eliminate the carbs completly if thats your thing.

As previously stated by several, grilled chicken is the healthiest option at a fast-food chain. If you get a hankering for mayo on anything, a good substitute is reduced-fat Miracle Whip.

Somewhat off topic, but has anyone seen the movie, "Super-Size Me"? I saw that a few weeks ago and have been really laying off the "bad" fast food since then. Shouldn't take a movie to do that, but it's pretty convincing.

I'm glad the movie helped you get off fast food, but it's such a biased and unscientific movie.

As for my suggestion, most fast food places offer a salad or vegetable option. Also, get water or juice instaed of soda.

If you need something more substantial, I also suggest a grilled chicken type sandwich or turkey sandwich minus the mayo.

Super Size me had the same effect, but I saw some serious flaws. I am in the very early stages of doing a "downsize me" opposing version of what you can eat at McDonalds. However this is at the same stages as my Quizno/LHS buisness.

Basically try to limit your FF intake, and watch what you eat when you do. Ask the employee's about substitutes, most places offer healthier "Sides" than the tradional fries, you just have to ask.

Problem I saw in the one time I saw that movie was he would only eat things offered there. Nothing supplemental like vitamins or milk or anything like that.

Same thing happened to me, but then we went to state tournament, and McDonald's was right across from our hotel, and it was basically all we ate for 3 days. So either I ate there or didn't eat at all.

I like Subway, Taco Bell (bean burritos, good n' cheap :D ), and Chicken Sammiches from places like Wendys, BK, MCdonalds. Sometimes in the morning when I'm in a rush I get a Bagel and Cappicuino (sp?) from Tim Hortons.

The taste of fast food isn't enough to make you guys not eat it? Yuck.

On a side note, Cosi in NYC makes great--albeit expensive--and healthy sandwiches. Vinagrette, two slices of mozerella, chicken tomatoes and lettuce in their own bread. REALLY good! Unfortunately, it's about 10 bucks with a bottle of water.

As a McDonald's employee I would say:

-Dont get the salads becasue the dressing makes it as bad as a sandwich and Crispy chicken is not a good choice on ur salad either. The best however is a Grill Oriental salad and eat it without the dressing.

-For the new subs everything is pretty bad, ur safest bet is to have a Turkey BLT w/ out mayo and bacon (which kills the taste by the way) and opt for whole wheat cuz white isnt as healthy.

Everything else is bad and the whole breakfast menu is brutal, especially McGridles.
