lightspeed blade technical ?

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of Vapor XX, which are about a year old. I replaced the perferated blade with a solid blade. I have broken two solid blades so far. I heard the steel used in these blades is defective - is this true? if so has Bauer fixed this problem? It is getting exspensive to fix when blades keep breaking.

Will the lightspeed 2 blades fit the vapor XX skates? Are there similar problems with the Vapor XXX?

Can you put the old Tuuk blade & holder on Vapor XX? if so how well does it work?

Thanks for any info someone can provide.

I don't have any of those yet. Plus like I said, I'm not selling anythign from my store on here.

I will continue to do repairs and custom radius, as that is my gig.

I've been selling and sharpening LS2's for about a month or so. The steel seems fine. I never had much problem with regular LS steel. Even though they may claim it is defective, I believe the main problem is that it is weakened by overheating by poor sharpeners. I rarely have had a customer return with a set of LS steel I replaced and exclusively sharpen.

3 of us on my team have the LS and 2/3 broke. We bought them the same week, same store, only difference were mine are 8090s, another kid has XXs, and another has XVs.

edit: mine were the one un broken, although I am smaller and weigh less than the other guys.

Jimmy -

Notice how the LS2 steel is nice and clean? I was doing a direct comparison between LS and LS2 - the LS steel was discolored around the edges, looks like they were burned from the factory. Could it be that?

I really do not overheat my blades when I sharpen - they are always cool to the touch. The other guys in the shop? That's a different story...;)

The LS2 steel I've seen seems to be rusting very quickly. I've only seen a couple pair so it could just be the kids.

Yea, it is very different for sure, just not sure of the alloy composition they used. Certainly not more nickle in the alloy keep the rust down, as Chadd has seen excessive rust so thats not likely. Perhaps they increased the amount of carbon to add strength. Time and use will tell.

I am disapointed they changed the hardware to the nut instead of the allen. I really liked the Allen, so easy to take off and put on, especially using a little hot glue to hold it on the end of the allen wrench.

I'm anxiously waiting for Hotblades to get it's new steel on the market for the LS's.

They really put $$$ into research and have made a stronger, solid lighter steel runner. I've got to test the prototypes for the regular Tuuks, and I think it will be a winner. You'll appreciate that the wholesale cost will be cheaper than the Bauer stuff. Also, availability. Nothing more frustrating than waiting for a Bauer out of stock item. The LS2's distribution may be better, they are made in Canada, not Italy so we don't have to wait for the boat to get here.
