breaking sticks...

Recommended Posts

I've never broken a stick on a shot, my technique is just that good. :D It's either been from slashes, getting stuck in the boards, or just wear and tear over time.

has anyone ever noticed that their stick seems find during a game, but once they get home/get in the dressing room, the stick has a big crack and is about to break? that happend when iused woodies and with my alpha, and happens all the time with my friend, who uses 9030 SOP's, he's broken 8 in a year but only one of them completely broke during a game.

That happened with my Si-Core, I guess that I got slashed hard and then when I came home I was stickhandling with a smart hockey ball and it folded. I've also never broken a stick on a shot, mostly on slashes, getting hit, stuck in boards, running into posts and such. Although it does look pretty badass when you go up for the big one timer and it goes 30 feet towards the net.

I almost never break sticks. Either I break them myself cuz i feel like it, or they get soft so I break them, but I've only broken one stick one a shot, which was my junior synergy, it exploded in my hands.

LOL..... I once had a junior Tri-core, I stopped using it for ice because it was WAY too flexy. One night in my garage I really leaned into a michigan and it just gave way. Only stick I've ever broken.

Ive only ever broken one stick, some guy grabbed my cage as i went past, the stick went over the boards and snapped in the middle.

for all you guys who snap sticks a lot.... what flex do you use?

most of mine last me a good season or 2 but i use an Xstiff shaft.

XStiff does not mean more durable. If you think about it, a flexible shaft actually gives before failure, where a stiffer one snaps with any movement. What would snap easier? A piece of flexible balsa wood or a pencil?

It would look more badass if you burried the one-timer in the back of the net. <_<

For whoever was talking about the woodies, the same thing happens to composites too. But because of the way they're built, damage doesn't show on them, so they break and you don't expect it. Woodies break down faster, but you can usually visibly see damage. That's the reason you see so many composite sticks break on the ice.

A simple way of putting it is that when you break a composite stick, it is more drastic than when you break a wood stick, due to it being soft.

PS I dissagree, it looks cooler when you hit the net with your stick and score.

i'm just wondering why i never break sticks? i've been playing for about 10 months and i've never even broken a wood stick. i'm about 5'11" 185 lbs...

obviously i'm happy about this as i'm not made of money :]

but, i'm just wondering if that means something, like i have bad shooting technique or if i'm just weak or what. hopefully i'm just lucky

(yeah right)

For a lot of people it's just in their technique and how they shoot. My cousin is about 6'4 and 240, he's had the same Synthesis shaft for 2+ years and plays regularly with it, and has gone through I think 4 carbon blades. I play with a kid who's about 5'6, 130, and he breaks OPS like they're twigs, and a lot of them are in the middle of the shaft. Lots of slappers tend to kill wood sticks, you can feel them kinda getting ready, and then they let loose.

oh i kno the faceoffs are hell i play it in roller and my responce is all maked up and it has hair line cracks in it and i rarely take slappers in roller.

Yah same with me. Except I take a ton of slappers. So those hairline cracks that I get on the bottom 12 inchs of my stick from face-offs usally result in my stick snapping a foot or so up from the blade. Sucks.

Heres a weird one. When I used to use woodys for roller, I almost never broke a blade, but I snapped the sticks in half like crazy. This happen to anyone else. Or am I just really stong :D (I wish)

I broke two Easton Comp 7's (100 flex) right in the center of the shaft. They actually broke in almost the same spot and it happened when checking another player. I play D, and I'll go through a blade every 2-3 games. I don't shoot too much either.
