  1. Lol I had no idea that Wickenheiser was a girl. Just googled her. I do like them though, except that on three occasions tonight I failed to catch an aerial pass because I couldn't open them up quick enough (not broken in) and the puck just bounced off the tips of my fingers.. ouch. MAN.. I wear a chick's glove.. however manly she is.. I'm not gonna let anyone know that.
  2. Off of ebay, I'm sure you guys have seen them on there. Pro stock Team Canada H.Wickenheiser stitched on "cuff". Its 13"-1" so there is not much of a cuff to speak of. Trying them out tonight.
  3. I think that's just an illusion from the switching to and from cable knit. It looks like its a solid roll with a HD plastic insert. But I'm just going off of appearances :)
  4. "Lucked" out on some mystery curves from the monkey. Ordered 1 mystery pro stock composite and a 3 pack of SWD Spezza 950 tapered woodies. Got a call a few days later from a manager (female, sounded cute) saying they only had 1 Spezza remaining. I asked them to give me another mystery curve (2 total) and make sure that they are as similar to the Spezza, and to credit the difference. The following is what I received. Curve #1 I think this is Drury-ish. About a 6 lie, a bit too high for me. Curve #2 I like this one a lot. About a 5-5.5 lie, which is ideal; however, its short-hosel and all my shafts are currently cut for long-hosel. I picked up a dolomite shaft from the B/S/T section and hope it comes soon because I want to give this thing a whirl. For some reason I dislike using end-plugs. Oh, yes I am OCD about my tape jobs.
  5. I cut out the pads, except the thigh, from my ITECH HP 1000 pants to turn it into a shell with extra protection for my girdle. I'd post a picture but I'm sure you get the idea. Made slits to slide out the plastic inserts.
  6. Damn, I hate not having a car. I guess I'm going to have to check it out the next time I borrow my roommate's car. Have you or geoff tried it out yet? I ordered a set of step steel from Bob @ noicing. 8'/12' combo and medium aggressive pitch at 90/75 FBV. I could definitely tell a difference with the glide, but I was skating 1/2" before.. felt like a bit less bite. Anyways, I love it and actually think I'm gonna stick with the 90/75 as I'm quite used to it now. I'm glad I got a local shop now with FBV (sorry Bob). Geoff is a bum.... but he's still gonna burn and dangle me regardless of the sharpening hes on.
  7. Sorry to hear JR. On a brighter note, MD/DC/VA MSHers. FBV has arrived at Ashburn Ice house. They got all 5(?) wheels. I don't know what Tim is charging but I'm sure its not much more than a standard sharpening.
  8. He could be french. Danglars. A la Count of Montecristo by Dumas. You english major.
  9. I live in the DC area and was wondering what LHS you went to. thanks. Went to the Gardens Ice house in Laurel. But the LHS i call my home is in Ashburn VA.
  10. I'll be at the game tomorrow/tonight with the Blues @ the Caps. Whenever Perron makes something happen I'll cheer a bit until someone notices, then I'll boo. Gotta support the MSH fam but my Caps are always number 1.
  11. I had a great experience when I picked up my skates 6 months ago (RBK 5ks). It was my first time buying skates for myself in 6 years. I walked into the my LHS and told the guy working this exactly. "I have no idea what I'm looking for, but something in the $250-$400 range. I am definitely going to buy from you today, so please bare with me as I want to make sure I get the right skate for my foot." He sizes me up and then goes into the back. Comes back with about 6 different skates stacked up. He says "try these on while I get some more". End up trying on maybe 15 different boots. When another customer would walk in he'd help them out while I'd be lacing up and then he'd come back and check on the fit. I end up buying my 5ks and picking up another hundred dollars worth of compression gear. Cool dude, smoked a cig with him while the skates were in the oven. He tossed in a few rolls of tape and extra laces. I wonder if he would have been as patient if he didn't know if he was gonna get a sale. From the other perspective, I have been in the service industry (both management and waitstaff) for the past 5 years while attending school on and off and worked retail management before that. For the last year I've worked at a higher end restaurant (about $70 a person check average). Wine sales was how you'd make your money, as "most" people in DC are tipping 20% for good service. The whole "how much are you looking to spend?" or "what price range were you looking at?" question does not come off as rude when it comes to helping them pick out a bottle of wine. It helps you classify whether your table is looking to buy the cheapest bottle of South African grape juice shiraz they can find or if they are willing to spend $160 for that elegant Chateauneuf. Some guests will find it uncomfortable when their server suggests a bottle of wine that is way out of their price range, or if their server suggests a bottle that is too cheap. I found that customer service is knowing your product but making your guest feel comfortable with their decision. Its tough not to come off as snobby when talking about wine (especially if you are a wine freak as I am) but it is necessary to let your guest know that you know what you're talking about, even if they don't. Reading some of these "horror" stories that you guys have working at your LHS I can relate to some of the crazy stuff I've had to do or go through while waiting tables. Ok this post is longer than I wanted, but I actually read/skimmed through all 70+ pages of this thread, haha (go 2 hour lectures that are boring as sin).
