  1. They aren't cool looking enough for kids to wear.
  2. I'm not, but if I were to ever skate out with any regularity again I definitely would get some.
  3. No not at all. It's the complete lack of defense because nobody at that level knows how to play yet, it's the garbage shots that bounce off four skates before going in, it's the never ending turnovers resulting in breakaways. Its all the things that come with playing with people who aren't very good. Don't take that as newb bashing either, it's just frustrating to play in those divisions. Facing better players is generally EASIER because when they wind up for a slap shot you actually get a hard shot coming towards you, etc.
  4. What we're talking about actually has nothing to do with blowout games, really.
  5. Mine look like the top photo that mc88 posted. I wanted the bottom, but they told me the top *IS* their comfort edge. Maybe they misunderstood what I was asking for. Either way, like I said it hasn't been an issue for me. The comfort edge would have been nice but I've had no pain or anything from the stock edges.
  6. My game on Sunday was okay, but I'm not happy with it. We won 8-4 which is great, but 4GA still bothers me. First one was a short side shot that squeaked in. Second goal was from the blue line. Guy who can really shoot takes a huge windup and I'm expecting a hard, high shot. It went through some legs, and ended up bouncing 3-4 inches off the ice in the opposite direction of the way I was moving. I'm not sure WHY I was moving to my left, since it was a shot from a significant distance and I was square to it. At the time I was 100% sure it had deflected but my teammates say it wasn't. All I could do was watch it go in just inside the far post to my right. I felt like Bernier on that one. Luckily we were already up by like 3-4 goals by that point. Third goal was a crease scramble. Saved the initial shot, made a reactionary leg save on the rebound, and it ended up right on a guy's stick who dumped it into the net. Crap. Fourth goal was when we were up 7-3 and their superstar D-man (who plays D because he has no business playing in this division) decided to deke around everyone on the ice, including me. He got me so good I was basically standing up, turned around towards the net, watching him tap it in like it was a 6 inch putt. Whatever. Goals 1 and 2 I should have 100% had. Three I did everything I could, it just wasn't enough. Fourth goal... a write off. I'm not at all happy at giving up 4 goals, though. Like you, magnets, I have a much higher GAA this season than ever before, but I'm also playing a division higher than I ever have before. I was leading the league in SV%, GAA, and wins until that 14-3 blowout. Still leading in wins, though! Currently 5.08 GAA, 0.829 SV%
  7. I don't blame you. I got asked to sub in rookie league and I just won't do it. Ice time is great and all but it's more frustrating than its worth. Nice pic. I wish I could do that.
  8. I'd have to agree there. Doing something like that with eyelets makes a lot of sense in the skiboot-like Vapors of the world, but the VH is a lot more tuned to your foot and seems unnecessary. Regardless, if it's not what you asked for then you should absolutely say something. At worst they'll just tell you they aren't able to accommodate your request and you can either keep what they sent, or opt for a "normal" boot. VH is pretty good with the customer service, generally.
  9. Yea if I was going to buy Makos at this point I'd be going M8 for sure. No need to spend so much on the Mako II, for me at least. I only spent full retail on the original Mako because it was the only thing out at the time.
  10. Can't compare to Supreme because I can't wear those, but as far as everything I've heard the M7 and M8 will be the same amazingly comfortable fit, just a bit heavier due to lower quality materials.
  11. I asked them for comfort edge and was told that that's a default for all their skates, but mine certainly don't look like that second photo. It hasn't been an issue though. Who were you dealing with? Rob got back to me always within a few hours.
  12. The biggest issue was actually having the top of the boot dig into the outer leg, just above the ankle. Some people were able to alleviate, others not. I still wear a neoprene sleeve on my leg when I skate in my makos. I'd personally just buy the mako 2 or the mako m8 at this point, but if they're cheap enough to warrant the gamble then the original mako is mostly fine as well. Agreed with all of this. I actually had my teammates at the time ask if I had taken skating lessons. If that's not a testament to how much it helps to not be skating in pain anymore, I don't know what is. That said, if I ever go back to skating out again I'll be buying VH, just because my makos actually now feel loose on my foot compared to my VH goalie skates. Still, Mako is the best option on retail skates unless for whatever reason they just don't fit you, but that seems to be rare.
  13. I'd email them about it. Send back if necessary.
  14. Don't tie your laces anywhere near as tight as you're used to. There's no reason to when you have such good wrap.
  15. That's where the lower models came in. I wish they existed when I bought the original Mako at full retail. Still worth it.
  16. Definitely disagree. I had mine profiled to eliminate the pitch. Still the second most comfortable boot I've ever worn. (The Mako actually feels sloppy on my feet now after wearing VH) I think that's more because they know if you try them you'll like them. I wonder how many people tried the 30 day thing and returned them. Probably very few I'd guess.
  17. EK15 gloves sold. Kings pants, Flyers 9k shell, and Reactor throat collar all reduced prices.
  18. They have plenty of support, they're just not like ski boots.
  19. An evolution of the skate, just without the mako name.
  20. Keep in mind the Mako has a different holder than all other Easton skates.
  21. Nice! We got killed on Sunday. Lost 8-5. Any time your team scores five and loses, it's on you. Have to step it up for the next game.
