VH Footwear/TRUE by Scott Van Horne
IPv6Freely replied to dsjunior1388's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Thanks for posting that pic. I loved the white tendon guard earlier in the thread and wondered how the whole thing would look in white. You've answered that (personally, it's too much for me). Was the name/number a special request? I'm not sure if I'd do that to mine, but it would be awesome to have something fully custom (my current running shoes are Nike iD with my starting weight on one tongue and my goal weight on the other, kind of a motivational thing, so yeah I definitely dig custom stuff). -
Definitely. I'm one of them, no question. The Nexus is the best looking skate on the market, imo... if that says anything. Sure isn't going to stop me from wearing something comfortable though! And now that they're black, so much the better. I hate to admit this (insert confession bear meme here) but I've honestly avoided Bauer Vapor everything the entire time I've played hockey (about 3 yrs now) solely because that's what EVERYONE has. Trying Vapor skates was the last thing on my mind (though I did do it, before giving up and forking out the cash on the Makos). Anything Bauer I've ever had has been Supreme or Nexus. Yep, I guess I'm one of "those guys", but in reverse.

Leak or legit?
-
Yup, that's exactly what I'm feeling now. STILL very tempted to try VH, though.
-
Well sure, but this is completely removing the laces from the top four eyelets, not just loosening them. I have to pull the tongue way forward and slip my toes in carefully before putting my heel down, or else the footbed will bunch up. Not a huge deal besides the extra two minutes it takes to re-lace all the eyelets on both skates. I just wish the stock footbeds were slightly more rigid. But I also wish I didn't have to wear a neoprene sleeve on my ankle to keep from getting "mako-bumps", but if thats the price to pay to skate pain free then so be it.
-
The only I've found is that I have to be REALLY careful getting my foot in, or else the footbed will actually bunch up because its so thin. Pretty much have to unlace 4 top eyelets to get the skates on my foot.

New company making me use a Windows laptop... (rather, making me carry a windows email machine and my personal laptop to actually do work on even though I'm not supposed to)
-
That's caused problems for me too. Never got heel lock on my right foot because of it. Luckily I'm only 0.25-0.50" off so Makos were an option that worked for me.
-
No, it won't fit backwards. I spent 5 minutes trying to shove it in the holder the other day wondering why it was so hard to get in. Yep... backwards.
-
Do you actually USE them, or do they just collect dust? :)

Heh well this was more of a retention bonus. "Please stay with the company at least until it gets sold and we'll give you a small % of the money from the sale". Beyond that, our bonuses aren't too bad. Mostly certification based. $5k base salary raise for expert-level (CCIE, JNCIE, etc), and $1-3k cash bonus for lower level certifications (CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, etc). My last job was a quarterly utlilization bonus. Sounds great until you consider your base is much less. Eg. would you rather work for 100k + 10-40k in bonus (potential for $140k) or would you rather just make 120k base salary with no bonus? Hard to say which is better. Hah, I just got my team jersey (as an add-on, we only had four made for the new guys - not a new order), so luckily I won't need jerseys made for quite a while.
-
It already could be, rather the company we've been sold to. But the bonus is nice and makes it suck a lot less! :)
-
Getting a big bonus from the sale of the company I work for. Woo.

I dislike misunderstandings that cause people to get angry with you over something you didn't mean to be offensive.

We played at Staples center last weekend. Man, what an experience! Our photographer friend got a couple good shots of me: The other team also had a GoPro installed into the net during the game. They made a pretty cool video out of it:

Yea I was going to suggest that. Call them anyway, you never know.

Use lifts if profiling isn't enough for you.

Had the best game I've ever played tonight. Getting a goal in the first period was the least of it, too! I had at least 3-4 more chances, was skating well, no pain, not tired. Made some really good passes and didn't rush decisions when I got the puck. Helps when you're playing in the right division skill-wise and you have team mates who actually pass you the puck. I was seriously considering hanging em up after last season. It had stopped being fun. Now I'm having a blast, and on a team of guys I really like, who actually go do things together. We're playing on Staples Center ice in two weeks before a Kings game!

I have Makos now, but damn are these ever tempting. -
I had no-icing do a 10' radius, "slight negative" pitch (not sure how much "slight negative" actually changes it, but it sure felt a whole lot better on the ice).

Are the leg zippers in the pants the small metal teeth style (like what Bauer uses) or the chunky plastic teeth style (like what Reebok uses)?

Mine was totally fine for 3 games or so and then it just came back all of a sudden. I wasn't doing anything differently, as far as I could tell.
