  1. Theres no problem with that, the problem comes with baking them traditionally. The way I did it was the only time these speed plates have ever been comfortable and of any benefit to me. Give it a try and see for yourself, what have you got to lose?
  2. I'm baked mine originally following Bauers instructions and no matter how man times I tried to rebake them I could never get a decent fit. One day I decided to heat them up with a hair dryer and then stand on them just on my lounge room floor while pushing them with my fingers all over to get a proper fit. worked amazingly and now I've got a perfect fit. I hope that can help anybody out.
  3. I got mine last April with my 1XRs but could never get them to fit properly following Bauers instructions on initial bake with skates and then multiple times on their own. Id get sore arches and a numb foot within 10 minutes each time. Recently I decided to give them another go but decided to try moulding them differently and have been able to make them fit perfectly. I took a hairdryer to them outside the skate and heated them all over until the ink disappeared. Then I stood on them on my carpeted floor and at the same time with my fingers pushed the speed plate up into my arch and around the contours of my foot while flattening it slightly around my right big toe where it was rubbing. I think because of my higher arch the speed plate doesn't push up as well when moulding inside the boot. The result being the speed plate now fits perfectly and makes the skate feel noticeably unresponsive without them. Really glad I decided to give them another go as I was just going to sell them.
  4. I removed mine, I could never get quite comfortable in them so I decided they were 54g per boot that I didn't need.
  5. The CA9 frame doesn't require a recessed second wheel, the movement chassis does. Would make it harder to sell I'd imagine as not many people would have a boot with a recess and if they did they'd already have a form of straight chassis so why bother swapping?
  6. Just finished using them on the ice for the first time. These are worth the price for comfort alone, my skates normally give me sore feet and with power foot the pain was greatly reduced. Control was definitely improved as well. Much better leverage to put them exactly where I wanted them. I'm really glad I gave these a go, I'm definitely getting another pair for my inlines now. For the small cost the better comfort alone makes these a very good purchase for anyone interested.
  7. I spoke to soon, I got them today. They feel amazing! No shims in my Alkalis, shims in my supremes. Can't wait to get on the ice tomorrow to try them out!
  8. Still waiting on mine in the mail, all these reviews are making me excited! It's been 2 weeks now so should get them this week(sucks living so far away lol).
  9. Happened to stumble across this topic, just ordered myself a pair as well. Very keen to try these!
  10. Things have been fairly quiet on the Alkali front over the last few months, anyone know if there will be an updated range coming out again in December? Normally there's a teaser in May/June.
  11. They haven't made wheels in months, if you look at online stores they're starting to run out now. I don't know to much but their deal with faction apparently wasn't renewed and the company stopped producing.
  12. Yeah here's hoping the maintain the standard. I don't want to switch brands, it's bad enough losing rink rat!
  13. You can always do what I did and chuck 76mm on the front of the Alkalis. I really like it and highly recommend trying it if you can.
  14. Yeah I'm a bit weird like that. 8.5 Alkalis but my supreme ice skates are 9.5.
  15. The change in pitch on the chassis with the recessed second wheel gives you a more natural, agile stance compared with the up high feeling of the CA series chassis. I personally don't mind the old one myself but I've been using 76mm wheels on the front of mine giving a similar lower effect.
  16. I personally don't like mixing durometres but at a guess I reckon you'd feel more comfortable with the softer wheels in the middle. When I've mixed durometres in the past I've found it awkward if I've had softs front and hard rear or vice versa. But again that's just a guess, experimenting with different set ups is half the fun! :)
  17. I'm the same man, anything less than 84A feels like riding a mountain bike with rear suspension(so much energy loss). I really like the rink rats but I've been meaning to try the harder grip plus addictions, I didn't mind the regular addictions that cake with my skates.
  18. You'll have to see at your LHS if they're interested in doing a swap.
  19. I had that briefly with my right foot as well in the beginning but they callus up pretty quickly. A lot of the young guys at my local rink have issues as well with doing up their axles to tight and jamming them. I do mine up until I just get to that point of resistance, not to loose so it clicks and not to tight so it jams. I'm glad Alkali still use the good axles not the horrible reversed ones that Mission/Bauer use now. Hope all goes well with your new skates!
  20. Recently got my Alkali zip up hoody, got to say quality is amazing and it looks pretty sick, warm too coming into winter. Same goes for an Alkali shirt I bought a couple months back as well. Nothing but quality!
